Fife / William Warrender - Wemyss birth late 1600's
« on: Friday 03 August 18 06:56 BST (UK)  »
William Warrender married Jonet Christy in Wemyss on 29 Apr 1692.   But the only birth of a William Warrender that I can locate would make him 14 at his marriage - and 4 children born to him and Jonet up to 1699.      I know that it was legal for a boy to marry at 14 in Scotland at that time but just wondering if others feel that this is the right birth.?  If this is the correct birth then he would be from Anstruther which is geographically possible.

New Zealand Completed Requests / Crimean war records
« on: Friday 31 March 17 08:34 BST (UK)  »
Have seen a comment in a book from the 1940's suggesting a relative was in the crimean war.  He arrived in NZ in 1851, so it is possible.  Searching on google hasnt given me any resources similar to archives nz to verify records.  does anyone know where service records from that time period may be found?

One of those odd questions .. 2 siblings of my grandfather were buried in 1918 at the Purewa Cemetery in Meadowbank Auckland.   I enquired to the cemetery if there was a headstone and they advised there wasnt as the plot wasnt paid for at the time of the burial.   They have advised me the current cost, but dont have any information about historical costs.   I was wondering if anyone in their research had found any information around historical price of plots at that cemetery?  Just to understand how much the family was unable to pay?

Fife / James Oswald born about 1750, Wemyss
« on: Sunday 12 February 17 02:46 GMT (UK)  »
I have James Oswald on my family tree - he was married in Wemyss to Helen Maxwell on Dec 2nd 1775.   I am trying to find James Oswalds birth - but I have 3 possibles - parents could be James Oswald and Elizabeth Wemyss who had a son James on 3/12/1751, or James Oswald and Christian Birrel who had a son James on 16/10/1748 or James Oswald and Margaret Baxter who had a son James 11/11/1750 - all were in Wemyss, Fife and found on Scotlands People.

Anyone have any suggestions on how I can figure out which James birth is the correct one?

James and Helen had children James, John, Elspeth, Henry, Helen and Margaret so the child named Margaret may be an indicator but  .. not sure that is strong enough to get me comfortable.  As it is so far back only parish records so nothing noted to indicate a parent in marriage details.

Appreciate any suggestions

Looking for an app on ipad that will allow me to have my family tree with me when I travel, not require internet and allow me to see the notes I have recorded in the programme I use on my home computer which is Legacy.

I have a lot of info about census locations and family links etc recorded in my notes and want to be able to see them.

Have tried Heredis but it doesnt seem to include notes - unless I have done something wrong in the way I got the GEDCOM file...

thanks for advise

London and Middlesex / Baptism 1805 Richmond upon Thames
« on: Friday 07 October 16 08:29 BST (UK)  »
Have found a parish record that states Mar 1 1805, Sarah daughter of William and Elizabeth (illigitimate) ... Walter.

Does this mean that Sarah Walter is the illigitimate daughter of Walliam Walter and his partner Elizabeth who may or may not be his wife - ie maybe wasnt wife at birth of the child but is William's wife now.   Or that Sarah Walter is the illigitimate daughter of Elizabeth Walter and a man named William but fathers surname not provided ?

Cant find any record of a marriage for the same church for this couple in 1804 05 or 06

Inverness / Sleat or Strath - any info before 1800
« on: Friday 16 September 16 08:36 BST (UK)  »
Searching in Scotlands People to try to find info prior to 1800, but just coming up no results.  Saw a different post that suggested for Sleat in particular there arent any parish records before 1813.  Just wondering if anyone has any suggestions or do I just stop once I get to the early 1800's?

Families I am looking for are
Kelly - Angus born Strath 1797, his wife Euphemia McLeod born 1800 Strath,
McInnes, Mary born Sleat 1835,
Mckinnon, John - not sure of date of birth but his children born 1813-1815 so probably about 1790's and Johns wife Mary Robertson.

thanks

Berwickshire / Duns Cemetery - is there anywhere that has details or photos?
« on: Thursday 08 September 16 23:59 BST (UK)  »
I am looking for photos or transcripts for the McLennan family.   John McLennan born Feb 1867 in Logie Perth believe died in Duns, Berwickshire around 1945.   I believe his wife Margaret Todd also died in Duns about 1940-1941.

I have tried searching the internet to see if any of the websites have transcripts from Duns cemetery but no luck.  Other than Scotlands People are there any other resources anyone knows of to confirm dates of death and maybe get a photo of the grave stone.
