New Zealand Completed Requests / This is not a look up request but a question.
« on: Saturday 03 September 22 19:01 BST (UK)  »
My sister and a cousin are administrators of another cousins estate, and have discovered that some of the possible beneficiaries are now living in New Zealand. Here in the Uk there are various ways to trace living relatives, but we have no way of knowing what sort of avenues are available in New Zealand that can be searched remotely. If anyone can offer any suggestions it would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you

Oxfordshire / Abraham Marsh bc 1692
« on: Friday 25 February 22 11:20 GMT (UK)  »
I am looking for his baptism although I cannot guarantee that he was born in Oxfordshire. However, he married twice and was “of Oxford” on both occassions, once in 1720 and again in 1732. He raised a family with his second wife within the parish of St. Michael, Oxford and they were both eventually buried there.
I do have six of the OFHS parish register cd’s which I will list to save any duplication and wasting your valuable time. oXF-OX03, OXF-OX02, OXF-CN02, OXF-WIT02, OXF-BIC01 and OXF-CN03. These have been very useful and I don’t mind if I have to buy another one, but it would be better if I knew where to look next.
If anyone has some of the other OFHS transcriptions I would be grateful if you could have a look around 1792 for his baptism. It would also help if you could let me know which parish cd’s you have looked at so that I can eliminate them from the search.
Many thanks 😊

Warwickshire / Any hope of finding Sarah Smith's baptism?
« on: Tuesday 04 January 22 18:33 GMT (UK)  »
Hi everyone and Happy New Year to you all,

My great great grandmother, Sarah Smith, was born circa 1831. She was the daughter of Samuel Smith, a glass maker of Spur Lane, West Bromwich. This info comes from her marriage certificate in 1852. The marriage took place at Ebenizer Chapel, West Bromwich, which is probably Non Conformist. Could she have been baptised at the same Chapel and if so are there any existing records. I am particularly interested in the maiden name of her mother, "Betsy", who has so far eluded any search. Perhaps Samuel and Betsy may have married in the same Chapel. Any pointers would be much appreciated.
Cheers,

Kent / Mary Ann Hope....fresh eyes needed!
« on: Saturday 05 December 20 18:31 GMT (UK)  »
Mary Ann Hope was born on 6th May 1830 at Frittenden Kent. She was still alive in 1851  working as a domestic servant in the household of Alleyne Barker the Reverend of Wouldham, Kent. She was also mentioned in her mothers' Will which was signed 6/4/1850 and proved 21/5/1851. After that I have had no luck in tracing her. I have found half a dozen possible marriages but the possible couples do not feature in subsequent census records, or children born do not have a mother's maiden name of Hope. The grooms details are as follows:-
Joseph Forrest m. Maidstone J1853
James Barker m. Maidstone S1853
Henry Green m. Tunbridge s1860
Philip Deadman m. Sevenoaks D1865
James Wickham m. Sevenoaks D1865
And Jeremiah Enright m. Thanet (Wouldham) 6/1/1850

I have also found a death registration in Thanet 15/9/1861 where the age of the deceased matched my Mary Ann Hope, however, when checking the census records this lady seems to have been born in Cumberland. I don't subscribe to Anc....try, or FindMyPast, so am unable to look at the original records.

Any help would be greatly appreciated as always.

Regards,
PtE

Oxfordshire / Marriage of James Wyatt and Sarah Hunt 16/2/1803 Bloxham, Oxfordshire
« on: Wednesday 07 October 20 18:58 BST (UK)  »
Dear Rootschatters,
Family search has the images for this marriage, but I am unable to bring them up on my iPad to anywhere near readable, they are just too small. I have tried to look at them on my PC but nothing comes up at all. Don't know if that's a problem with my equipment or Familysearch. So, if anyone can look it up I would be interested to see if there are any other details. My ancestor and his wife would have been married around this time going by the birth of their first child, and they lived in  Harmondsworth Middlesex, but further details are rather lacking. Any help would be very much appreciated.
Thank you.

Kent Lookup Requests / Robert Croucher and his wife, Martha
« on: Wednesday 10 June 20 11:26 BST (UK)  »
Hi everyone,
I am hoping that someone with a sub. for An....y might look up a Select marriage for me. I am using the Kent board as a starting point because this couple christened children in Frittenden, Robert was buried in Staplehurst, and his widow subsequently remarried in Staplehurst and is buried there with her second husband.
What I haven't been able to find is a marriage for Robert and Martha, nor where they were born.
These events could have taken place anywhere, but, having found a reference in the aforementioned website for a Robert Croucher and Martha Post marriage, it may be worth a look as no details are given to non-members.
On the other hand I may be clutching at straws!

Best regards,
PtE

Oxfordshire / Abraham Marsh of St. Michaels, Oxford
« on: Tuesday 14 April 20 17:59 BST (UK)  »
Hi there,

I am looking for any information regarding Abraham Marsh who was probably born around the end of the 17th Century.
As we had free access on a certain website this weekend, I did start looking for him based on his marriage to Mary Payne or Paine in 1732. I found nine children from this couple dating from 1733 to my ancestor  who was christened in 1748.
However, from a different website today I found that he was a widower when he married Mary and had previously married Elizabeth Shepard sometime in 1720. So, I realised that I had not been checking the parish registers back far enough.
If any one can find any info. regarding his birth, parents or any children from his first marriage it would be fabulous. He was a cordwainer (shoe maker) according to his second marriage and the christening records of his subsequent children of that marriage.
Many thanks in advance and I hope you are all keeping well in these very unusual times.

The Stay Safe Board / The restrictions due to coronavirus
« on: Wednesday 08 April 20 18:58 BST (UK)  »
Hi Everyone,

These are just a few words about my experience today attending a funeral of a special cousin. She wasn't a covid 19 victim, but had died on the 29th February from longstanding health problems. That was typical of her to be awkward as we can only remember her death once every four years!
Anyway, as you are aware, there are restrictions involving funerals, but I have to say things couldn't have turned out better. We had a beautiful day to start with, and although many of "cousins" end of life plans had to be curtailed, one thing that she did request was a white carriage drawn by four white horses, and they arrived complete with bright red plumes on their heads as red was her favourite colour. The handful of mourners walked behind the carriage to the cemetery which is in a lovely area of south east Kent, and the service was held beside the grave to the accompiament of Cliff Richard singing "Constantly " and "Amazing Grace". There was even a pheasant which kept joining in plus a few rabbits scampering about in the background. I know we are all in difficult times, but this experience today shows that we can make the best of trying circumstances and even look back and think to ourselves that our loved ones had a lovely send off.
Stay safe everyone

Technical Help / Motion pictures from my camera problems on viewing on my ipad
« on: Wednesday 08 April 20 18:37 BST (UK)  »
Hello rootscatters, I hope that you are all keeping well in these difficult times.

Today, I attended a funeral of a special cousin....not a covid 19 victim thankfully. I took my Panasonic LUMIX with me and took a number of still photos and four motion pictures. They all play back perfectly on the camera, but when I downloaded them onto my iPad only one motion picture played back. Do you think I have a problem with the iPad or could it be something else?
Your thoughts would be helpful as long as I can understand them, so please don't get too technical or I will lose the plot.
Many thanks in advance and the very best to you all.
