« on: Saturday 05 October 19 19:45 BST (UK)  »
A John A Rule married a Mary Deegan in the Catholic church in Sydney in 1854, but I can't find anything about him before that. Does anyone know when he arrived in Australia and where he emigrated from?

The Common Room / 1939 Register Ammendments
« on: Tuesday 10 September 19 21:56 BST (UK)  »
Is anyone an expert on changes or additions  on the 1939 register? There is something I don’t understand on the entry for my family!!!!
There are entries for my mother and father, then 2 blacked out entries for me and the eldest of my triplet sisters. Then The line for my second sister is open and her husband’s name written in in pencil and with a note including what appears to be a date in Sept 1972. Then there is the blacked out line for my youngest sister. Why has just one of my sister’s entry been amended? We cannot see any family connection to a date in Sept, 1972

Worcestershire / Kidderminster carpet weavers 1850s
« on: Tuesday 14 March 17 19:57 GMT (UK)  »
I am looking at the family of John and Jemima Cox who emigrated to Australia and arrived in Victoria in early 1853. I see that there is a letter in the National Archives from the clerk to the Guardians of he Kidderminster Poor Law Union, listing quite a large number of carpet weavers and their families, including John and Jemima, who were asking for assistance in getting to Australia. Was there a particular reason for such a large number of weavers, presumably out of work at this time.?

Australia / John and Jemima Cox
« on: Saturday 24 September 16 21:36 BST (UK)  »
I'm looking for the names of the children of John and Jemima Cox (nee Nail & variants) who were born in Victoria between 1853 and 1865. I have downloaded Jemima's death cert.hoping that this would give me the children's names but the list of children's names is almost illegible. I can guess that some of the names are ones that I have but there are a some that I can't read.
Does anyone know the names of all their children. The 3 eldest were born in England before 1852.

Armagh / 1821 Census McDonald Forkill, Armagh
« on: Tuesday 17 May 16 15:56 BST (UK)  »
In my search for a Daniel McDonald and his parents, I have found a McDonald family, with a son Daniel in the 1821 Ireland census. The family lived in Aughanduff, Forkill, Armagh. Daniel's age is right for the person I am searching for, but the head of the house is down as "widow Owen McDonald" aged 52. Am I right in thinking that this means that the mother was the widow of Owen McDonald?

He would have been born around 1785. Does anyone have any details on Hugh the tailor!!!! please. I have a possible "suspect" married to Cathrine, but no details of his occupation.

Renfrewshire / Residency in Greenoch
« on: Friday 05 February 16 19:36 GMT (UK)  »
I have a marriage in Greenoch in 1852. Neither of the couple had any previous connection to Greenoch. After the marriage they sailed for Australia. The marriage certificate does say that both were "of this parish." Does anyone know how long they would have had to be resident in Greenoch before they could be married there?
