Dorset / Dorset Militia
« on: Sunday 02 July 23 14:07 BST (UK)  »
I am clutching at straws here but would appreciate input from anyone who has knowledge of the movements of the Dorset Militia between 1794 and 1801.

Here's the outline. John Kerley was born in Edmondsham 1776-7 so would have qualified for the militia in about 1794. His first daughter was christened in Maidstone, Kent in 1800 when he appeared to be married to an Elizabeth. All their subsequent children were christened in Cranborne. I am having difficulty finding their marriage.

Now there is a marriage in Sidmouth, Devon of a John Kerley and Elizabeth White in July 1800. He is described as being with the Dorset Militia.

Was the Dorset Militia in Sidmouth, Devon and Maidstone, Kent in 1800?

If there are any specialist sources (websites, books) for the Dorset Militia too, I would be grateful to know of them.

Many thanks.

Huntingdonshire Lookup Requests / Frances Goodwin 1779 -1780 Alconbury-cum-Weston
« on: Thursday 29 December 22 17:25 GMT (UK)  »
I wonder if someone has access to the christening and burials for Alconbury-cum-Weston for 1776 to 1780?

Here is the little mystery. A Frances Goodwin daughter of William and Elizabeth Goodwin was buried in July 1779 and apparently, another Frances was christened in June 1780. This suggests there were two Frances, but there is no christening for the first Frances, so is it a transcription error? I have seen date errors by one year before when the transcriber misinterprets the date range stated in the page header.

Could someone check for me please?

Thanks.

Northamptonshire / Potterspury marriages 1843
« on: Sunday 14 June 20 15:09 BST (UK)  »
There seems to be a gap in the marriage registers on Ancestry for Potterspury. They don't have the marriages the PRs for 1840s just the Bishop's Transcripts, but then there is a problem. The entries stop in 1841, there is blank form and then they recommence in 1844. Evidently, there were some marriages during this period. Does anyone have a copy of the images or a good transcript? I am looking for details of Samuel Pittam and Sarah Meakins in 1843.

Thanks.

Warwickshire Lookup Requests / Southam Parish Burials FLANDERS
« on: Wednesday 10 August 16 12:05 BST (UK)  »
I would appreciate it if someone could confirm an entry in the Southam Parish Burials.

FindMyPast lists the same record twice but with conflicting dates.

Isaac Flanders buried 17 Feb 1849 age 24 "hanged" but on the same day there is another entry in the transcription with age 35.

These records are also on Ancestry, but for some reason the images of the registers are not available.

Please could someone confirm the correct age and whether the parish register sheds any more light on the note that he was "hanged", accidental or sentence?

If it was a sentence any clues as to the circumstances or court?

Thanks,
