Waterford / Dillon Jewellers Waterford
« on: Thursday 19 January 17 11:56 GMT (UK)  »
I was wondering if anyone could help me with confirming some information about Dillon Jewellers.

Up in St Patrick's Graveyard  there is a Jonathan Dillon who died in September 1846 aged 67and is described as a watchmaker in the burial records. From what I can gather, he may have had 3 sons all who followed their dad into the jeweller business.

The first seems to be Jonathan, who may have wrote a hidden message in Abe Lincoln's pocket watch.
The others seem to be Richard and Thomas who made Queen Victoria her Claddagh ring and Thomas later went to Galway in 1850.
Also I believe Jonathan Dillon's dad was a Goldsmith called Joseph Dillon and I noticed there is a Joseph Dillon buried here in St. Patrick's who died in October 1814 and I was wondering if it could be Jonathan's Dad

Waterford / Mayor James Sempill/Semple
« on: Wednesday 04 January 17 10:05 GMT (UK)  »
I was noticing a James Sempill M.D, buried in St. Patrick's Gateway Centre along with his wife Anna and his granddaughter Nicholona. He was an Alderman of Limerick and served in the Waterford Independents 2nd Regiment. He died 10th June 1806. His grave was erected by his daughter Elizabeth Anderson.

I noticed there was a James Sempill who served as Mayor of Waterford in 1797 and again in 1799. I am wondering if these could be the same person, given the name but I can't find the connection

Waterford / High Constable of Waterford
« on: Monday 19 December 16 12:49 GMT (UK)  »
While looking through the St. Patrick Graveyard inscriptions I notice a High Constable of the City buried in the Graveyard. However I have no idea what a High Constable actually does and I can't seem to find any information on the role entailed. In particular any information about High Constable during the 1700's since the High Constable here died in 1798

« on: Wednesday 07 December 16 12:03 GMT (UK)  »
I am looking for any information on  Lt.-Col. John Aylward Blood's military career. I know he married Frederica Gamble who killed herself in 1838 and on her grave he is only down as a major and he was in The 68th Regiment of Foot. However despite his high rank, I can't seem to find anything about his career.

Any help would be appreciated

I am looking for any information on the career of David Allen, Royal Navy Lieutenant. He died 30th July 1826 aged 43 and is buried with his wife Anne in St. Patrick's Gateway Centre in Waterford Ireland.

I know he was made a Lieutenant 25th Oct 1806, but I can't find anything about his career no mention of ships or battles he was in.

Any information would be welcome

Waterford / Captains Carew of Waterford
« on: Monday 17 October 16 15:24 BST (UK)  »
I have noticed in the St. Patrick's Church Graveyard in Patrick's street a grave for a Captain James Carew (he was a Mariner) who died 1764 aged 53 along with 4 of his children. Also mentioned on the headstone is his eldest Captain John Carew who died in 1785 aged 32.

Does anyone know who these two Captains might be?

Waterford / Abraham Denny in St. Patrick's Gateway Centre Graveyard
« on: Monday 26 September 16 14:22 BST (UK)  »
I am working as a part-time researcher in St. Patrick's Gateway Centre in Waterford and I am having trouble with a tomb. In the Graveyard there is a box tomb for a Abraham Denny who died 29th September 1857 aged 84. However I can't find any details on who he is or if he has any connection to the Denny family who made the sausages. I believe he might given his tomb is next to the grave of Richard Denny and possibly John Hall Denny's first wife Rosannia.

Any information would be welcome.
