Family History Beginners Board / Gallashiels Grave
« on: Wednesday 27 July 22 03:42 BST (UK)  »
I believe that my 2nd Great Grandfather, David Nicol Philp,,was born in Dysart but in his 30s moved in the 1870s to Gallashiels with his wifeJane where he raised a family.  He is listed on his death certificate as Forman Baker. He died there on 18th April 1916. Despite manl attempts I can't find any record of where he was buried.  I have found him on Cencus returns and have his death certificare which states that he is a widower and he was  Foreman Baker.
Can anyone help me find where he is buried please as I have hit a dead end.

Kerry / MICHAEL LANGFORD of KEEL, Castlemaine
« on: Saturday 12 February 22 14:58 GMT (UK)  »
My husband's Grandfather was MICHAEL F LANGFORD 1866 - 1938 who owned the farmstead of Cloonaragh in  Keel, Castlemaine. District known as Kilgarrylander.  I have found him in the Parish Register with his death listed as 'MICHAELUM LANGFORD 19 May 1938 Tralee, Ireland'.  We have also found his grave at Keel.
However we have had no success at all in finding a DEATH CERTIFICATE for him to find what he died of and any other information it may hold.
I've also searched for Wills and Probate as that sometimes holds extra family information.   Can anyone help us find either of those ?
We would also really love to see a photo of him if one exists.
We hope someone here can help.

Soes anyone in the Spink family know about her ?  Where did they live as a family. ?

Family History Beginners Board / David Philp, Kirkcaldy
« on: Tuesday 26 February 19 18:29 GMT (UK)  »
I have been trying to find out which David Philp was living in Roger Close in Kirkcaldy in March 1876.

There are many David Philips around that time, many born in Markinch, but I want to verify which one this was as he was the father of my Great Grandmother. All I know is that he was a Master Baker and that he lived inn Roger Close in March 1876.  Ive checked Cencus Returns at the Library to no avail.

Fife / Jane Ann Healds/Martin from Kirkcaldy
« on: Wednesday 15 August 18 12:18 BST (UK)  »
I recently found that my G Granma had a sister born: Jane Ann McDonald Healds in 1882 in Kirkcaldy, Fife to Ann McDonald Healds & Alfred Healds.  Jemima's mother died when she was around 6 yrs old and she was taken in my a local family- name of Philp.  Later married Andrew Nicol.
We knew she had a brother called Fred who died in 1917 in WW1, but just discovered that there was a younger sister, aged about 3yrs when their mother died. Her name was Jane Ann Healds. Does anyone know what happened to her?
I have found a marriage certificate from 1911 which names her - but no one in the present family has ever heard of her.  She married an Alexander Martin n Kirkcaldy so she would have been known as Jane Martin.
Did another family perhaps take her in  or adopt her ? Id love to know what happened to her.  I am assuming she was separated from the family. Otherwise she would have been known to us.  My G Granma died in1963 so Jane may have lived into the 1960s. Id love to know what happened to her.  If you are a descendant please get in touch.

Fife / Ann MacDonald / Healds b.Dysart 1853 d.Kirkcaldy 1882
« on: Thursday 12 July 18 23:20 BST (UK)  »
I am looking for any information about Ann MacDonald, born 1853 in Dysart in Fife.  Ann MacDonald was my GG.Grandmother, mother of my GGranma Jemima Nicol and we know very little bit about her.

Ann's father was Alexander MacDonald, believed to have been born in Wemyss in Fife around 1811 - 1815. He was a Master Mariner who sailed on the 'Baltic Run'. Also on other trading ships. Her mother, we believe may have been Margaret Wemyss Wallace b. 1817.

Ann MacDonald was married to Alfred Healds & died of TB on 1882 in Kirkcaldy leaving 2 children.
1)Jemima, my G Grandma b. 1876 d.1963, who was married to Andrew Nicol, painter.
2)Frederick  Healds, known as Uncle Fred, b. 1879. He was lost at sea when his ship 'The Mary Rose' was sunk off Norway in WW1 in 1917.

My interest is to find more about my GG Granma, Ann MacDonald Healds, her husband Alfred Healds & her father Alexander MacDonald, Master Mariner.  I have photographs of Jemima & Andrew Nicol and Fred Healds I have attached.  I hope someone can help me fill in some blanks.

« on: Sunday 12 November 17 11:59 GMT (UK)  »
I have traced my Grandfather Alex Reid's family 2 generations back to Alexander Reid b.16.3.1840.in Drumblade.. Baptised 24.4.1840. He was my G G Grandfather and my line comes down through his son John Reid b. Toliphin, Auchindoir & Kearn who moved to Fifè aged 5yrs with his parents and later married Agnes Swan.
I am now looking for any info about Alexander senior's parents William Reid & Jane Gordon who married in Cairnie, Huntly on either 24.2.1833 or 28.3.1833.
Any info on either William or Jane would be appreciated. especially birth date & place of birth of William Reid &/or his parents or his wife.  Hoping someone can help.

Fife / MARRIAGE LINTELS of the East Neuk
« on: Sunday 28 May 17 18:14 BST (UK)  »
I remember my father pointing out a Marriage Lintels when I was young and telling me they were his ancestors ( Grandparents/Great Grandparents ) .  Just wondering if anyone has ever done a photographic record of all the Marriage Lintels in Fife Villages.  I have looked and looked.  I know the house was near the coast, facing the sea ( East Neuk ) and set back a bit from the front street.   Many have now been plastered over but I would be interested to know if there is a photographic record anywhere - perhaps done in the 1960s when they were still more commonly to be seen.

Cumberland / DINAH ROBINSON of WHITEHAVEN
« on: Sunday 16 April 17 20:25 BST (UK)  »
I'm having a real problem trying to figure out which Dinah was the mother of Isaac Robinson - my Great Grandfather - who was  born Whitehaven in 1837, married in Kilrenny, Fife, in 1870 (name of certificate is IsaacRobertson) & died Kirkcaldy in 1901 as 'Robertson', meaning my father Robert Robertson never knew his Grandfather Isaac or Grandmother Dinah.  We only have a photo of Isaac.

Isaac's father was John Robinson, who I believe to have been born 3rd December 1799 in Kendal to a John & Ann Robinson.

Isaac's mother was a Dinah --------- ( always listed as Robinson ) Dinah Robinson died in October 1848 in Whitehaven, Cumberland, when she was 57 years old. I think that's correct, but not 100% sure.

I thought I'd found her as Dinah Edmondson on my last visit to Whitehaven Research Centre, then the name Dinah Allison started turning up, and then Dinah Faulder - all about the same time.  All married to a John Robinson in Whitehaven or thereabouts.

I think that my G. Grandmother Dinah was born 1795 and died in 1848 in Whitehaven.  These dates make sense.  But was she an Edmondson, an Allison or a Faulder ? My leaning is towards Faulder at present, but only because of the dates looking likely.

Anyone else following this tree ?  Any help would be welcome to get me out of this frustrating rut.
Anne.
