Yorkshire (West Riding) / Issabella Bruce Sheffield
« on: Tuesday 21 March 17 12:02 GMT (UK)  »
Trying to trace my 3 times Great Grandmother Isabella Bruce. At the 1841 census she was shown as living with George Bruce 40 she was 35 and their son also George aged 15.Living in The Wicker Sheffield.I believe it to be Stanley St Wicker as this is where they both died. I have been trying for years to get a death cert for her but no joy .From  Sheffield Family History Soc and Sheffield Indexes I have the burial details. She died and was buried 8th Dec 1844 in St Peter and St Pauls Church(Sheffield Cathedral).Details give her husband as William but I think this is an error and may refer to the Vicar who buried her ,his name was William. as all other family records point to George being her husband and George her son. I have details of her husband Georg's death in 1846 and a coroners report for him. I seem to have hit a brick wall on both these Great Grandparents as only the mark h beside his name on the 1841 census showing he was born outside area and I against Isabella and young George denoting that they were born in Ireland is the only information I have about them. Can anyone help me move this research on ?Many Thanks

Lancashire / Bardsley /Bell Newton Heath/Newcastle upon Tyne
« on: Monday 20 March 17 11:56 GMT (UK)  »
We are trying to trace my Husbands Grandfather's life before the First World War. His name was Charles Trevor Bell and at the 1911 census he was living in the house of Harriet Bardsley a widow and his supposed Aunt at 2 Lancashire Street Newton Heath. Also in the house was a niece Flora Pollock a tayloress. Charles Trevor Bell was born in Nov 1882/83? in Newcastle Upon Tyne ,we have no information on this at all apart from his attestation records when he enlisted in the army in January 1915.He is shown on the census as a Motor Mechanic and this is his profession whilst serving in the army. He married 27th feb1915 Eliza LLoyd at Failsworth and they had two daughters Harriet (my husbands mother) and Matilda .He was subsequently killed in action on the 20th Dec 1916 on the Somme and is buried there. Eliza left with the two children continued to live in Failsworth. We have been unable to find out anything regarding Charles how he came to Manchester and what relationship Harriet Bardsley was to him.She was given as his next of kin on his attestation papers. Was the relationship through the Bardsley side of the family or through Harriets family the Goag family. Would be grateful of any information .

Yorkshire (West Riding) / George Shaw born 6/6/1790 Rotherham
« on: Wednesday 22 February 17 16:22 GMT (UK)  »
Looking for the family and wife  of George Shaw born 1790 in Rotherham. He was the son of Joseph Shaw and Mary?. Could she be Mary Axe? I have one child John Shaw born to Joseph Shaw and Mary Axe 1792 in Rotherham married to an Elizabeth? They are my Ancestors. I think there may have been another child Ann born 1795 in Rotherham. I am very confused with all these Shaws in and around Swinton ,Rotherham and Mexborough. Joseph Shaw the father was a Waterman and I think John was also working on the canal .He was a Boat Owner.I had followed another George who was born in 1815 and Master of a vessel on the canal but realised he was born too late to be the son of Joseph and Mary Axe .Would appreciate any help on the family and also if anyone has information on the canal workers in and around Swinton. Thank You

Gloucestershire / Joseph Godwin Upton St Leonards marriage.
« on: Friday 06 January 17 15:23 GMT (UK)  »
Have tried to find a marriage for Joseph Godwin and Dianah (Ann)Manning at Upton St Leonards Gloucestershire. Joseph was previously married to Caroline Luker Who died in 1872.He had been living in Upton St Leonards with Caroline and had Four children. He married? Dianah my Great Grandmother between 1872 and possibly 1875 when the next child was born. They then had two more children one being my Grandfather. They both died on the same day 21/2/1924 and are buried in St Leonard's churchyard. I have searched everywhere for a marriage but have not been successful. They were a very religious family so I find it hard to think they would not have been married and their grave is very ornate and prominent in the churchyard for a couple who had not been formally married. They were both employed at Boughton Hall in Upton St Leonards. Anybody any ideas?
