The Lighter Side / Probate Researchers
« on: Friday 25 June 10 15:07 BST (UK)  »
My father, and his siblings have been contacted by telelphone by a Probate Research Co out of the US, looking for info to confirm their connection to the deceased, who they say is a half sister, born of their Father out of wedlock. They claim there is a sizeable inheritance to be disposed of and if they are the rightful heirs they would recieve it after a "commission" paid to the researchers ....my question is ...how do we know this is a legitimate enquiry, are they fishing?

Lancashire / Gregg-orphan from Liverpool?
« on: Friday 14 April 06 16:28 BST (UK)  »
Hello everyone,
My father in law, John Major Gregg, deceased, came to Canada in the early 30's by ship. Apparently he was orphaned at the age of 2yrs in Liverpool. He did travel back to England in the late 50's with the hope that he would be able to trace his roots. However he was told that any records there might have been were destroyed during the war.
Where would I begin to trace this family tree? The family beleives he was the youngest of a large family of 10 or more children. His mother died when he was born or shortly after and his father was blind and unable to care for the children ...hence they were sent to an orphange.

Any direction would be greatly appreciated.

I am trying to trace the movements of my ggrandfather James Brodie who was a gardener and I believe lived in the area of Gosforth in the early 1900's. What great houses would there be in that area that he may have been employed at?
