Greetings to all you trackers out there.
Firstly, I will acknowledge how good this site and particularly the lovely people who are willing to help others, has been to people like myself.
With your help, I have been able to travel back to before 1800, with relative (pardon the pun) ease, in my endeavours.
As an exiled Scouser, all of my records, whilst not being exactly easy in some cases, have been available to me.
I was explaining to a good friend, how I had manged to achieve this with the help of Roots Chat. He then asked me how he could trace his family tree and, therin lies my dilema.
My mucker is aboriginal and, while he has a Scottish surname I'm not sure about his records. I can see that, beyond a few generations, it is doubtful that any records exist.
I even doubt that his surname lasts beyond a few generations.
However, is there anyone who can tell me if aboriginal births, marriages and deaths were recorded in the 'normal' manner in the past, since the advent of European record keeping?
If so, can any kind person please point me in the right direction for records?
I am asking Roots Chat because so many people, living in Australia, have been able to help me with English records and it is the best site ever for 'people in the know' to get together with information.
