Cambridgeshire Lookup Requests / Burwell look-up? Hobbs / Prince
« on: Friday 27 July 18 13:42 BST (UK)  »
Hello,
I have found (in someone else's tree) a reference to a marriage in Burwell on 8 Aug 1774 between William Hobbs and Susannah Prince, but there is no source information. Obviously I always like to confirm information found in this manner, but I cannot get to the Cambs Record Office. If anyone has access to the parish records, I would be very grateful to get confirmation of this?

I was also hoping that there may be evidence of baptisms for William and Susannah? I don't know their parents names or when or where they were born, but hoping this may also have been in Burwell.

The Hobbs family certainly seem to have a long connection with Burwell and descendent records all seem to be in the non-conformist records, so I am not sure if the marriage above would have been in the Church or the Chapel.

Any advice very gratefully received.

Many thanks

Technical Help / FTM 2017
« on: Tuesday 22 August 17 01:40 BST (UK)  »
Hi,
I hope this is in the right place?
I have my tree in FTM2008, I hadnt synced in to Ancestry since about 2009, but would now like to as I've just had DNA test done.
I know FTM2008 will no longer sync, so I paid for FTM2017.
I have imported my tree from the 2008 version, but it won't upload to Ancestry! I just get an error message.
I have been on the Live Chat support site for a total now of 7 hours over the weekend and this evening; they have had me doing back up after back up, disabling anti virus software and firewalls and doing a complete Windows 'clean boot' which involved disabling all my start ups. Still nothing....
Finally told the bloke I had to go to bed as I have work in the morning; he told me to contact them again tomorrow... So frustrated.
Anyone had similar? TIA

Huntingdonshire Lookup Requests / Baptism - St Ives
« on: Friday 17 February 17 13:14 GMT (UK)  »
Hi,

I am trying to find a baptism for a Emma Eliza Lantaff or an Emily Lantaff in St.Ives in 1874.

I do actually have her birth certificate which states her to be Emma Eliza born in Oldhurst, but I was keen to try and find a baptism as many other records I have state her name to be Emily. In fact, her name changes between Emma, Eliza and Emily frequently depending on what I am looking at.... I am interested to know what her baptised name was.

I managed to make a flying visit to the Huntingdon Records Office on Monday and I checked the Oldhurst baptisms, but she wasn't there.... The family, did, however move to St Ives very shortly after her birth, so I am thinking now that she may have been baptised there. Unfortunately, I didn't have time to check St.Ives records and I don't believe they are on-line?

Many thanks

The Common Room / Parish marriage record versus Civil registration?
« on: Thursday 19 January 17 15:48 GMT (UK)  »
Hi,

I think I have found the parish record for a marriage I am after. Infuriatingly, the marriage was by banns and both the bride and groom are stated to be "of full age". I was really hoping that their ages would help confirm....

The thing is the marriage took place in 1852, so I should be able to order the civil marriage certificate, however, before I pay out for it, is that likely to tell me anything different?

Thanks

Buckinghamshire Lookup Requests / Bucks/Northants border
« on: Wednesday 18 January 17 01:14 GMT (UK)  »
Hi,

I have posted a similar enquiry on the Northamptonshire board and had some helpful suggestions, but thought I should, perhaps, try here too. Apologies if I'm not supposed to do this.

Census records suggest that Edward Brittin (born abt 1810) originated from Old Stratford, Northamptonshire. However, I have now discovered that there was no church in this village and it is only separated from Stony Stratford, Bucks by a bridge? It is likely that people living in Old Stratford went to Church in Stony Stratford or other nearby parishes? The boundary between Northants and Bucks seems to have varied over the years.

I have found a possible baptism for Edward in Stony Stratford with parents Jacob Brittin and Anne. However, I'm wondering if there may be other possibilities?

I also can't find anything else on Jacob?

I wonder if anyone with local knowledge of the area may be able to point me in the right direction.

Thank you.

Northamptonshire / Old Stratford, Northamptonshire?
« on: Tuesday 17 January 17 01:22 GMT (UK)  »
Hi,

I'm hoping that some locals may be able to help me with a bit of local geography?

I am looking for a baptism record for an Edward Brittin, who I believe to be born abt 1810. On the 1851 and 1861 census, his place of birth is given as Old Stratford, Northamptonshire.

I have searched parish records on Ancestry and the only possible I can find is a baptism in Stoney Stratford, Buckingham on 11 June 1810 (parents Jacob Brittin and Ann).

I ignored this originally, but getting desperate, I've been doing a bit of googling and it appears Old Stratford may have been part of Stoney Stratford in the past?
Could Buckinghamshire/ Northamptonshire have had different borders in 1810?

Grateful for any help.

Many thanks

London & Middlesex Lookup Requests / Can't find my Adams family?
« on: Saturday 14 January 17 21:01 GMT (UK)  »
Hi,

I'm wondering if anyone might have any ideas that could help me with my 'brick wall'?....

My Great Grandmother Sarah Adams was born on 6 December 1879 in Clerkenwell / St. Pancras. I have never been able to find her birth record, but know the year from the 1881 census and the date from a personal letter that she sent my mum in 1964 (following the birth of my brother) where she said she had just celebrated her birthday on 6 December.

I had a bit of a breakthrough recently, when I finally found her baptism record - she was baptised on 4 January 1880 at St Peter's, Regent Square, St, Pancras. Parents are John Adams (Coach Painter) and Sarah and their address was 11 Wellington Square.

I have found the 1881 census for her with her parents and siblings at Leigh St, St.Pancras:

John Adams (Coach Painter), age 45 - born Bristol, Gloucester;
Sarah Adams (wife), age 34 - born Clerkenwell, Middlesex
John, age 15
Elizabeth, age 12
Thomas, age 9
Henry, age 3
Sarah, age 1 (my GGran)
(All the children also born Clerkenwell, Middlesex)

I cannot find an 1891 or 1901 census for any of them.....

I know Sarah married Herbert Walter Brittin on 31 August 1902 at St. Mary's, Somers Town. Her father John Adams (Coach Painter) is stated to be deceased, Witnesses include John William Adams and Jane Adams. (I have the certificate).

Sarah then appears on the 1911 census with Herbert and her own children.

But where were they in 1891 and 1901? Assuming her dad John could have already died by 1901, I have tried to find mother Sarah as a widow and her siblings, but can't find any obvious matches.

I also can not find any trace of Father John and Mother Sarah on the censuses before my Sarah was born. As all the children are stated as being born in Clerkenwell, I should have thought I would find them in 1871 at least?

Really struggling as to where to go next. Any suggestions?

Many thanks

Handwriting Deciphering & Recognition / Help with occupation?
« on: Sunday 08 January 17 23:59 GMT (UK)  »
Hello,

I wonder if anyone can help with this occupation?

If it helps, all other documents I have state his occupation as either Fishmonger or General Dealer. I originally thought perhaps Book shop keeper, but doesn't really seem likely.

Many thanks
