Durham / Maddison of Westernhopeburn
« on: Monday 20 November 17 08:39 GMT (UK)  »
Hello, would anyone know about a marriage of John Maddison to Jane Bainbridge in Stanhope circa 1790? It would most likely be at St John the Baptist.

John and Jane had a 3rd son William in 1798 at Westernhopeburn (different to the William baptised also in 1798 to John Maddison and Mary Robinson of Westernhopeburn).

The two John’s may be related or not as I have seen there are records of Bainbridge’s at Westernhopeburn, so might have been Jane’s native abode before relocating, but the first John was noted a native of this parish.

Not to confuse this John with John Maddison who married Jane Nattrass whose children were all born at Shield Ash and was son to Ambrose Maddison of Shield Ash.

Burial seem to match the John and Mary of Westernhopeburn later of Brotherlee hinting they did not move, but John Maddison and Jane Bainbridge must have moved on since John was a miner.

Northumberland / Maddison/Mathewson of St John Lee/Anick

Hello,

I am putting this out in case there is someone who knows about the Maddison/Matthewsons who attend St John Lee parish.

My research takes me back to a Samuel Maddison, born Samvil Mathetson (took a while to find the baptism due to the spelling) son of Jacobi in 1716. I have all of Samuels siblings and children, but don't know if his father is local or from elsewhere and can't seem to find a birth or marriage. Samuel lived in Anick and was buried in 1791. Another Maddison family lived in Wall and remained in the area, but wouldn't know if they are related.

Any help would be appreciated

Regards

Jared
