Cavan / Old Stratford Family - Research dead end
« on: Tuesday 15 August 17 18:09 BST (UK)  »
Hi,

There are some posts about Stratfords on this site already. I am interested in a few generation back further than these.

In Drumlummon graveyard, there is an old grave that my grandfather (when he was alive) said we were related to. I believe I have calculated how, but I am at a blocker - I cannot get any information about these ancestors apart from this grave.

The grave has a Stratford Crest on it - A lion rampant on top of a few horizontal lines contained within a shield. Above the shield is an armoured arm bearing a sword. This matches up with the general Stratford coat of arms:
 https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stratford_family.

The grave reads:
"Here lies the body of Thomas Stratford of Carrick, County Cavan, who departed this life 16 day of April 1777 , also, Elizabeth, his wife, who departed this life, 1 day of August 1765 and Thomas Stratford, their grandson, who
departed this life,  21 May 1779 . Though shalt esteem to their memories."

So from here, I have a rough tree:

Quote
Thomas Stratford 'of Carrick' (before 1737 - 1777) = Elizabeth ? (Presumably a similarish birth - 1765)
 |
Unknown Stratford (I have some notes saying this may be a William, but I am not 100% confident)
 |
Thomas Stratford (? - 1779)

The older Thomas Stratford seems to be in the right timeframe enough to be recorded with the more successful Stratfords such as the Earls of Aldborough, However I cannot find anything on him at all.

The same can be said for the Elizabeth and the later Thomas Stratford.
Does anyone have any ideas where I could look for more clues?
