Inverness / Urrach alias Fraser
« on: Thursday 06 January 22 09:21 GMT (UK)  »
This is the way that a baptism is entered into the Parish Register and Indexed on SP,  Killearnan 1804.

The entry itself contains few clues, William Fraser, spouse  Ann  - then a space, daughter Jannet,  living at Kilcoy with no further mention of Urrach or why it was mentioned.

Can anyone suggest the reason or significance for the addition of  'Urrach'?  Or help with the occupation  - attached

Thank you.

Inverness / Death in the Caledonian Canal
« on: Monday 27 April 20 07:42 BST (UK)  »
Whilst researching relatives it has been discovered one man, Donald Campbell died from drowning in the  Canal, at Banavie  in 1943.  The entry in SP was done on the information of the Procurator Fiscal and whilst it states he was married it does not say to whom.  It does have his correct age and parents, though.  No RCE.

Donalds  job is described as Lieutenant. I am trying to discover more information.  Am Baille does not have newspapers for this time.

Angus (Forfarshire) / Arbroath birth
« on: Wednesday 11 March 20 07:56 GMT (UK)  »
In 1881 in a household of Frasers in Inverness the last entry is Alexander Mill aged 11 Born in Forfarshire, Arbroath his relation ship is described as nephew.  Head of the household is Alexander Fraser b1824, his wife is of a similar age so seems unlikely to be their nephew - though not impossible of course.  Two of the occupants of the household are grandchildren one of whom was born in Forfarshire Dundee.  I have the original SP entry.

In order, on the census  is head, wife, son then daughter in law, son, dau, dau, grandson, grandson, then nephew.  The grandchildren belong to the son and daughter in law.

I cannot find the birth entry for Alexander Mill - his name appears to have a wavy line underneath as if to question the spelling.  There are no Mill births that fit and the Milne births do not fit.

Anyone have suggestions??

Canada / 1960's wills in BC Canada
« on: Thursday 22 August 19 17:42 BST (UK)  »
Is it possible to buy a will from the 1960's?  I have a relative that died in Vancouver and Ancestry has thrown up an internment of ashes in the UK, that included the same Street as the death cert.

I assume this request would be from a will as she had no family there and lived alone - a friend signed the death cert.

Thank you

Inverness / Parish query Inverness
« on: Tuesday 26 March 19 16:45 GMT (UK)  »
Hi folks - delighted to find info on my of my Frasers,  he went into the army in 1899 and explains why he was no where to be found in 1901.

It is definitely him, as Mother is next of kin,  however I am a bit puzzled with the parish on the attestation papers - it says shows the name twice - looking like Gashie and Fallie - given that he was born in the town itself I dont understand?

Anyone an idea? Thanks

Nairnshire / Extra Smith girl!
« on: Sunday 16 December 18 11:21 GMT (UK)  »
Hi folks - I am now totally confused!

Can someone help my poor muddled brain!  I have an extra child for whom I have no birth or rather baptism for or any trace of early on.

Mary Ross married Thomas Smith in Nairn in 1841 and there followed 11 children so I thought!  It is of course as hard to look for Smiths in Scotland as Frasers in Inverness!

I bought the birth record of Mary Smith  b1855 - this shows this is her 7th child with 3 boys and 3 girls living. All those 6 baptisms are seen in SP 18 42-55.

However I have a Marjory who married a William Smith in 1874 - her wedding cert shows her parents are Thomas Smith and Mary Ross and was married from the home in Rose St Nairn.

In 1851 Census the parents have only the sons at home and 2 the two eldest girls with grandparents in a house further down Rose Street the third girl (per Mary's registration) is born in 1853.

So where did Marjory appear from?  I cannot locate her in any census until 1881 - where she states she was born in Nairn now aged 38.   No death cert located yet.

Any ideas anyone?
