Free Photo Restoration & Date Old Photographs / Ambrotype - clues?
« on: Thursday 01 December 11 14:17 GMT (UK)  »
This is a scan of an ambrotype which has just been given to me by a relative in a batch of family possessions. Due to the dating we can apply to ambrotypes I'm fairly sure of who the people in the photograph were, but I was just wondering if the lady's dress or any other aspects of the photograph give any clues as to location, status etc.?

Thank you for looking  :)

The Common Room / The Historical Journal
« on: Thursday 08 April 10 16:41 BST (UK)  »
Hello all

Does anyone know of any libraries that hold an archive of The Historical Journal?  I'm interested in the December 1979 issue and am rather reluctant to pay £20 to download the online version from Cambridge University Press on the off-chance that there just might be a snippet that just might benefit my genealogical research.

Thanks!

Staffordshire Lookup Requests / Pigot's Directory of Staffordshire (1828-9)
« on: Monday 18 August 08 09:31 BST (UK)  »
Hi, please would anyone be able to look up an entry in this directory for a William Taylor who I think may be listed under the Bilston section as a watchmaker (he is a victim of the cholera epidemic just a few years later).  If there are other William Taylors listed under Bilston, I'd be very interested in those too.

Many thanks!

Lincolnshire Lookup Requests / 1841 Census Look-up, Gedney, Please
« on: Thursday 06 March 08 08:38 GMT (UK)  »
Hello,

I have the marriage of a William Bullen to a Martha Wright in May 1844 in Gedney, but his age is given as "full age" and he has no father listed on the marriage certificate. I was wondering whether anyone could kindly look on the 1841 census to see whether William was in Gedney at this time and whether any details of his origins can be gleaned?

Many thanks

Durham Lookup Requests / Bede College Memorial / DRO / Great War Roll of Honour
« on: Thursday 09 November 06 12:40 GMT (UK)  »
Hello

I am looking for the Roll of Honour for Bede College (Durham University) for The First World War.  I understand that there is a war memorial in the grounds of Bede College and there is also a document in the Durham Record Office (Ref: E/HB 2/908).

I can't see me getting up to Durham in person for months/years - I was wondering if this is local to anyone who can help?  Obviously, I'd be ever so grateful!

Many thanks
