The Common Room / Marriage Certificate Entries
« on: Sunday 27 March 22 14:01 BST (UK)  »
Am I right in thinking that a deceased Father wasn’t always marked a so - thus leading one to think they are still alive.
Thanks

Could anyone please have a look at the two following images.
This first one is of a birth certificate for Sarah Crawford.  In column 2 it is showing the birth date as Feb 6 (1838), with Thomson Street as address.  However, above these details it is showing what appears to be 10 Night, or possibly W Night. Also, in the Informant Column it’s showing mark of Ann Crawford, with possibly another address or maybe a signature.

The second image is the signature of my 4x G. Grandfather.  Following his signature there seems to be some form of character, it looks familiar (from way back), but I can’t recall what its meaning is.  Or, of course, I may have dreamt this it up.

Any help would be appreciated.

Could someone please take a look at this 1841 Census record for Samuel Bland and help me with the occupation - The second word I am sure is Dealer, but I can't make out the first word.  I did think Tin, but wasn't sure.
Many thanks

World War One / Uniform ID Please
« on: Friday 23 July 21 10:48 BST (UK)  »
Could anyone identify this soldiers uniform for me.  I know he was in the 2- R R Of CAV, as I have his medal for this.  However I have never been able to find his Army Records, as I have no idea what his original regiment was.  I do know he served in Italy during WWl.

Any help would be appreciated

Could someone please take a look at this witness name on marriage certificate.  I think it's saying Eleanor Styan, but the ST could be letter H.

Many thanks

Free Photo Restoration & Date Old Photographs / Grandma Burgess' Children
« on: Monday 12 October 20 14:02 BST (UK)  »
As suggested by Tomkin, I would like to request a photo restoration.

I did add it to the Grandma Burgess thread yesterday, but I dont think the image of the young children uploaded, so I will try again.

As I mentioned on the previous thread, with dates and certain facts now in place, I am wondering if this one of the children was taken when Grandma Burgess remarried in 1919 - I say this, as the children appear to be very dressed up, with the little girl carrying a flower basket.

I realise people are busy with such requests, so any time will do.
Thank You
Sally

Could anyone please give an estimate as to when this photo may have been taken.  Sorry for the state of it, it's a photocopy, the only one I have.

Many thanks

Handwriting Deciphering & Recognition / 1808 Marriage Record
« on: Wednesday 04 March 20 14:39 GMT (UK)  »

I would be grateful if someone could confirm that the occupation of Joseph Robinson on this marriage register is ‘Caravan Man’, and would this mean he was a traveller/gypsy.

If I have the correct couple in the census records, that record implies that both were born around 1791, which would make them about 17 years of age when they wed.  The record also states that Eleanor was a Widow – was it commonplace that people married early in those days, in particular regarding Eleanor.

I have tried to find a marriage for Eleanor whose surname is actually Turner, and not as transcribed for this record, but correctly transcribed on a Bishop’s Transcript record.

As you will have gathered, I am not the greatest researcher ever, but I am very grateful for any advice received.
