« on: Wednesday 19 December 07 08:55 GMT (UK)  »
I have just come across a relative who in 1956 held a Short Service Commision in the KOSB on the Empire List. If anyone could tell me what the Empire List was I would be most grateful. Thanks.

« on: Sunday 02 December 07 16:26 GMT (UK)  »
I am trying to find some background information on the Scots Grey's from the Normandy Beaches to VE Day prior to visiting the National Archives to read the Regimental War Diary. Can anyone recommend either suitable histories or web sites. Thanks.

Could anyone tell me the difference between a "natural" son and a "lawful" son as recorded in an Old Scottish Parochial Register (1846).

Thank you.

Alderney, Guernsey, Jersey, Sark / French Refugees
« on: Monday 15 October 07 19:35 BST (UK)  »
Two of my ancestors, Jean Payn (born in Nantes) & Francoise du Frene (born in Granville) were married on 9 Apr 1831 in St Hellier, Jersey. Jean's parents were Philippe Payn & Marie Louise le Halper. Francoise's parents were Oliver Germain du Frene & Countess Marie-Francoise Augrain. A logical deduction would be that the families fed to Jersey to avoid the tyranny of the French Revolution. That said I would now like to find some evidence to support this theory and would be grateful if anyone could advise on how I might proceed.

Armed Forces / Reserve Service Post WW2
« on: Tuesday 27 February 07 09:48 GMT (UK)  »
In 1946 my father was released to Class 'Z' (T) Territorial Army Reserve and in 1954 discharged on completion of the engagement and allocated to the Army General Reserve Group P and eligible for recall to age 43.

I am interested to learn what  Class Z (T) and Group P Reserve liability was and any information would be appreciated.

Armed Forces / Army order 23 of 1898
« on: Wednesday 10 January 07 11:12 GMT (UK)  »
My great grandfather rejoined the Colours under Army Order 23 of 1898. To date I have been able to find what this regulation was and would be grateful if someone could point me in the right direction. I am also interested in the Special Army Order of 2nd April 1898 concerning new messing rules.

World War One / WW1 Army Medical Notes
« on: Sunday 03 December 06 11:07 GMT (UK)  »
I have the medical notes of a soldier who was in the Cumballa War Hospital, Bombay with enteric fever and the entry for 11 Jan 1917 states :

" Received from F.1. condition as in previous notes. Class A for England".

If anyone could interpret F.1. Condition and Class A for England I would be grateful.

I would be grateful if anyone could pont me in the right direction to get information on the following WW1 military medical facilities:

  1. Cumballa Military Hospital Bombay.
  2. Citadel Military Hospital Cairo.
  3. HMHS Egypt.

Additionally, was there an Alexandra hospital in Bombay in 1917?

Many thanks.
