Europe / Linguaglossa, Italy ancestors, please help...brick wall
« on: Friday 03 March 17 21:23 GMT (UK)  »
Hello all! Thank you for taking the time to read my post, and potentially help :) I am trying to help my father locate any records of his ancestors in Linguaglossa, Italy. We have been using Ancestry.com, but are finding road blocks  :-\ I'm very new to this site, and to forums in general---I just signed up yesterday-- so please bare with me, as I am still learning the ins and outs of how to properly post in here. Thank you again to anyone who wants to help!  ;D

~~~~~~~~-------------
Starting with my father's father (my grandfather) I know that:
His name was Richard, EMMI. Born, c. 1920 in New York, USA. His birth name was Salvatore EMMI, and he had two siblings, Julius EMMI c. 1921 and Emily EMMI c. 1923.
Parents of Salvatore (Richard), Emily and Julius were: Salvatore EMMI c. 1891-3, Linguaglossa Italy and Josephine DEGRASSE c. 1898, Italy.
While we are sort of interested in Josephine's family, we're more concerned with Salvatore of 1891's lineage.
I'm aware of one sibling of Salvatore EMMI c. 1891 named Concetto EMMI. Also, I have located a 1915 New York Census listing, potentially, Salvatore and Concetto's mother, Francesca. Though in the information blurb on Ancestry states that "Francis EMMI" is a 47 year old male, upon looking at the actual document, I can see that "M" for male has been written over with "F" for female, and the occupation is "House Work(er?)"
So, in short....I am attempting to find Salvatore and Concetto's (and Francesca's) location in Italy, prior to 1912, any other relatives, and quite frankly, and other information any one wants to help me dig up! I will post a breakdown of the 1912 New York Census below. I can't thank any one who helps enough, as my father has traveled to Linguaglossa, Italy numerous times, but cannot find any info, as he does not speak the language. Thanks again!
June 1, 1915 New York State Census, Long Island City, Queens, NY
EMMI, "Francis", Head of house (F) Age: 47 Nativity: Italy Years in USA: 3 Status: Alien Occupation: Housemaker
EMMI, Salvator, Son, (M) Age: 22 Nativity: Italy Years in USA: 6 Status: Alien Occupation: Cigar Maker
EMMI, Concetto, Son, (M) Age: 19 Nativity: Italy Years in USA: 3 Status: Alien Occupation: Cigar Maker
« on: Friday 03 March 17 13:08 GMT (UK)  »
Hello! I'm very new to this site (joined yesterday), and am having a wee bit of trouble navigating. I have questions regarding my ancestors who came from Linguaglossa, Italy. Do I post those questions in this forum, or is there a sub category? Just trying to keep things tidy and clear. Thanks for any info about how to use the forum. Will check out the new users info in full very soon.  8)
Nottinghamshire / Anderson, Richard Papplewick,England 1825 Help????
« on: Friday 03 March 17 01:33 GMT (UK)  »
Hello everyone, and thank you for taking the time to read anything I have to say! (I have come across a lot of dud forums, and I'm hoping for the best in regards to this one.) Ok! So...I am doing some research for my mother who is attempting to locate her Great Great (Great?) family in England, and their records. So far, we have hit a wall when it comes to one particular member. I will post all of the information I know below. My mother has been steered in the wrong direction so many times, and for us, it's very frustrating. She has ever taken the time to physically GO to Papplewick, England and hunt for more records, but it is very difficult because she is blind. Any help would  be much appreciated. We have an ancestry account, as well as use other resources online, but still cannot find anything. Thank you, thank you, thank you to any one who helps!
Edward Anderson b. approx. 1825 (Although we did find one record that said, "1, Mar 1825...I want to believe it, as it states that the father's name is "Richard" which I believe is correct.)
Father of Edward Anderson, Richard Anderson
Mother (again, working off of Papplewick baptism record), "Mary"
HUGE GAP OF TIME
The next records I can confirm are factual.
Edward Anderson married Mary Horrocks Mar. 2, 1862 in Manchester, St. John Church, Lancashire England.  He was titled as "Widower" with a father of Richard.
Question: Who was his previous wife? Where was he for all of the previous years? It is difficult to find any information, because there is no legitimate information I can find online that ties our Edward to this mysterious "Mary" (his mother?) and his father Richard Anderson. If possible, I would like to see if Edward had any siblings as well, in order to track further down the lineage.
My mother has a theory that Edwards parents put him in a workhouse (or he went there on his own? Regardless, he ended up in one?) because she likes to speculate. I, however, prefer the factual details.
WHEW! Sorry for the rant. Any information is welcome! Thank you so much!
