New Zealand / Ship "Maori" to Auckland 1864 Passenger Register
« on: Wednesday 10 April 24 19:18 BST (UK)  »
Various NZ newspapers have the passenger list for the "Maori" which departed London on 28 July 1864, and arrived Port of Auckland, NZ, on 23 Dec 1864.

Denise & Peter's Passenger Lists (hosted on freepages.rootsweb) also has a list, but this one contains the passengers' ages and occupations - which suggests the transcriber had access to the actual Passenger Register.

Can anyone please tell me where this Passenger Register can be viewed online?

Hi Does anyone recognise this parish? It's on a 1850 RC Marriage Record in Canada. Thank you.

Buteshire / Kilmory - Is "Crawford" the same as "McGraffan"

Hi
Does anyone know whether Crawford and McGraffan are variations of the same surname, and used interchangeably in Kilmory (c1770's)?

Handwriting Deciphering & Recognition / Placename on Booterstown register (Dublin area)
« on: Saturday 08 October 22 05:30 BST (UK)  »
Hi
Attached is a screenshot of 1875 Marriage Register (Catholic parish of Booterstown, Archdiocese of Dublin). I'm stumped on the place I've indicated, which appears so often on the page that it would make sense for it to be an abbreviation for "Booterstown" itself. However the letters don't seem to support this. Can anyone clarify what this placename is?
Secondly, can anyone give me a translation for what's written in the final column, for the second marriage (Whelan/Doyle) on the page. I wish to know if it contains something important to the circumstances of the marriage.
Thanks

Cork / Resident at "Railway Arch, Passage" 1860's - where was this?
« on: Friday 26 August 22 04:19 BST (UK)  »
Hi. I have births from 1866-1871 (in Registrar's District of Carrigaline, Co Cork) where the birthplace and parents' residence was variously described as "Railway Arch, Passage" and "The Arch, Passage".
I gather Passage was the local name for Passage West. I also know the railway from Cork town at that time terminated at Passage West.  There were a number of arched bridges along the route but it seems one in particular, obviously near the Passage end, was locally known as "The Arch".
Can anyone clarify what/where this Arch was? Thanks

New Zealand Completed Requests / Archives NZ searching
« on: Tuesday 09 August 22 02:28 BST (UK)  »
Hi. I want to search the surname "Barrie". I get some 7,500 results because it automatically gives me alternative spellings which means I get every Barry, including the christian name Barry. I've tried putting Barrie in quote marks but that makes no difference. Has anyone worked out a way to outsmart this aspect of the search facility?

Handwriting Deciphering & Recognition / Abbreviation in Scottish Baptism Record
« on: Sunday 03 April 22 06:52 BST (UK)  »
Hi. Below is extract from 1817 Baptism Record from Muthill Parish in Perthshire. The first entry I've highlighted seems to have the words "Non Braus" or something similar; the subsequent entry has something like "N.B."; as does another entry further down the page. Any idea what this means?

Laois (Queens) / Bealady RC Cemetery
« on: Saturday 12 February 22 04:52 GMT (UK)  »
Hi. I'm looking at 3 RC Baptisms 1848, 1849 & 1851 (in RC Parish of Rathdowney), 2 of which mention the places "Balady", the other "Donamore". I'm assuming these would be the adjacent townlands of "Barny & Bealady" and "Donaghmore" in Donaghmore Civil Parish.

I'm trying to find where RC residents of these townlands would have been buried. Google tells me burials are still taking place in the "Bealady Cemetery". Can anyone tell me please:
- if this cemetery would be the likely burial place for RC residents in the above townlands?
- when the burials in this cemetery began (if only modern burials, where would 19th century RC residents of these townlands have been buried?)
- where I might find Burials and/or headstone transcriptions for this cemetery? (Dr Jane Lyon's transcripts on From-Ireland don't seem to include Bealady Cemetery)
regards, John

Fermanagh / Ch of Ireland Cemetery in Derrygonnelly?
« on: Wednesday 29 December 21 02:48 GMT (UK)  »
Hi. This list  http://www.igp-web.com/IGPArchives/ire/fermanagh/cemeteries/derrygonnelly.htm headed "Derrygonnelly Graveyard" contains burials of a Teevan family (from 1823 to 1878) who I'm fairly certain were Church of Ireland. Could someone please clarify which cemetery this would be. I can find references to the Old Parish Graveyard but nothing which tells me its denomination and location. It obviously won't be the St Patricks churchyard because I gather it's Roman Catholic.
cheers
John
