Her mother was called Grimes and father a Norwegian from Christiansand? (Spelling) called Peter Karl Westlund

Cavan / Farmer family Bawnboy, Cavan
« on: Tuesday 11 February 20 19:43 GMT (UK)  »
Hi everyone,
Wondering if anyone has any info on my great grandparents. All I know is my grandfather Patrick Farmer was born in Bawnboy Cavan around 1895 ish  and died in Glasgow 1933.  His parents, my GG parents are Thomas Farmer and Bridget Hoolihan. Patrick married my grandmother Grace Menzies  in Glasgow 1925. My mother Margaret Theresa Farmer is one of two daughters he had before dying young when my mum was just around 5 years old so no info on him or his family back in Bawnboy, Cavan. Would love any additional info anyone would like to share of them please.
Thanks so much in advance
Allison ☺

It is supposed to be for Rodger Colgan born to Rodger Colgan and Kana Gowan but I cannot make out all the words and cannot see Rodger the fathers name, only the mothers. Is this usual?

Family History Beginners Board / Mary Goldie - Detectives needed :)
« on: Sunday 18 June 17 16:19 BST (UK)  »
First thank you to everyone for all of your help.
MonicaL a special thank you for all your efforts :)

The story so far:

John Mc Fadyen married Mary Goldie aged 20 and 19 of 29 Bolton St Glasgow 1886 Kinning Park
Mary's parents are John Goldie and Agnes Stevenson on marriage cert

Looking for Mary Goldies birth I found a birth in 1866 to a Rachel Goldie (illegitimate) , no mention of Rachels parents on BC
This would correspond with a birth for her 1866 / 1867

Going down the Rachel being her mother route and not the John Goldie and Agnes Stevenson route thinking she had been adopted or boarded out, after checking the Census for 1871, I found living at 62 Main St Gorbals John Goldie and Agnes and Mary. Mary is aged 4.

In the same 1871 Census there is another Mary Goldie aged 6 boarding at 44 King St Eastwood with other boarders and the head being Mr Algier. This Mary I believe is Rachel's daughter. In the same year 1871 we have 2 Mary's but one is 4 and the other is 6.

NOW the interesting thing is on the Census 1871 with John Goldie and Agnes nee Stevenson (born Campsie) and Mary 4 on it, further down the page at the same address 62 Main St are
James Stevenson 45 born Campsie
Mary Stevenson 45 born Campsie
Elizabeth 13 born Stirling
John 8 born Lanark

To me this looks like it could be Agnes Stevenson's parents, all living at the same address and each coming from Campsie.
I have followed this line back through marriages all the way to Campsie

This would make the Rachel route wrong don't you think?

Now the problem I cannot solve is if Mary's mother is not Rachel and it is Agnes and Agnes married John in 1869 and the Census of 1871 gives Mary as 4 years old, either this is an error or Mary was born before they were married.

My problem is I cannot find a Mary Goldie born to John Goldie and Agnes Goldie nee Stevenson for 1866 apart from Rachels Mary ?

Are there any sleuths out there that can solve this mystery for me because I am going crazy  ???

A little gem ☺

This is the police return record of the destitute in Glasgow dwellings in 1841

It contains good information, very sad to read but also helpful in building a picture of life.
May be of use to others looking up relatives of that year.
