Family History Beginners Board / Harold Stanley
« on: Sunday 08 April 18 09:55 BST (UK)  »
Helping a friend who does not use computer and would like to find out about her grandparent's families.
Harold Stanley married Alice Lynn.
They died in New Zealand.
I have looked at www.freebmd.UK at marriages and they married march 1916 Abergavenny, Wales.
Harold Stanley was 78years when he died in 1970 and Alice Stanley nee Lynn I am not sure as several Alice Stanley's in bdm.NZ  There is no headstone to check.

Have also looked at freebmd.UK for births for Harold Stanley and this could be Dec 1891 Abergavenny Wales.
Also Alice Lynn maybe born June 1897 Abergavenny.

Because haven't been able to follow UK Census to find parents.

Apparently they came to New Zealand when their daughter Betty Stanley was about 2 years old.
Once again found a Betty Stanley born Dec 1919 Abergavenny, Wales.
Not sure about other siblings.

Just not sure where do go next, as have tried all the usual genealogy sites.

Any help or advice would be appreciated.
Thank you.

New Zealand Completed Requests / John William gray
« on: Tuesday 07 March 17 01:12 GMT (UK)  »
Helping a friend find family of his grandfather he didn't know anything of.

John William Gray son of John and Frances Mary/Mary Frances GRAY nee SATCHELL.
Westland area.  Born 1880.
His WW1 Attestation Service says he born Wanganui, which I do wonder at.
But is there a Wanganui in Westland??

Haven't got a definite marriage as several men with same name.
But he was single in 1917 on his Army record.

Also in his Army records there is a death record 23.9.1968 Hamilton.
Have looked re cemeteries but did not find him.

Looked at Archives and wonder he is the one re Maori Hamilton files 1968.
He would not be a Maori.
But maybe his wife could be.

Just need some help trying to finish off this man family sheet.
His great nephew knows nothing at all of him.

Any advice greatly appreciated.
Thank you.

Australia / Joseph Henry Callaghan
« on: Sunday 30 August 15 12:08 BST (UK)  »
Joseph Henry Callaghan was born Kapunda, South Australia in 1882 to James and Mary Jane Callaghan.

If I bought a transcription of his birth, would it have place of birth of his father James Callaghan?

James Callaghan is very elusive and wondered whether his place of birth would help finding him.

We believe it could be Ireland????

Thank you.

Wondering if someone can prod me in finding marriage and death for Mary Jane DICKSON.

Mary Jane DICKSON was born in 1865 Dunedin New Zealand to William and Mary Dickson.

Mary Jane was the 2nd daughter for this family.
The family moved about 1868 to the gold fields of Buller, being at Brighton and Charleston where more children were born.

I have looked and looked but must be missing something when researching.

Help appreciated.
Thank you.

Cork / James Callaghan
« on: Monday 17 November 14 22:32 GMT (UK)  »
Our elusive James Callaghan is born about 1855 Mitcheltown Co Cork,.
According to his age at marriage in 1877 and what it says on a birth certificate of child, where he was born.

On his marriage in 1877 South Australia says 22 years old and father was William Callaghan.

James has 4 children with Mary Jane Fudge in South Australia.
3 of the children came to New Zealand to live.

I am aware there are possibly many with this name which makes it harder to define just who is the correct James Callaghan.

But any suggestions appreciated.

Thank you.
