« on: Sunday 24 May 20 21:21 BST (UK)  »
I'm looking for some help with the stamps on the this POW postcard. What does the 18 refer to on the left of the Stalag 344 stamp?  What does the red 7064 refer to?

« on: Saturday 05 January 19 07:26 GMT (UK)  »
Does anyone know of a place name of Sholt in Invernesshire??

I have a military pension record for Jonathan McInnes dated 1815 which states he is from the town of what looks like Sholt in Inverness, but I can't it anywhere.

Fife / John Pitcairn, Dunfermline
« on: Monday 27 November 17 21:04 GMT (UK)  »
I am having trouble finding a death date for John Pitcairn. The details I have for him are:
Born 27 June 1809, Dysart
Married Ann Williamson 7 Feb 1829, Leslie
Last known address - Golfdrum St, Dunfermline according to 1861 census.
Recorded as deceased on daughter Martha's marriage cert dated 6 July 1869

Therefore he must have died between 1861 and 1869 but there is no record on ScotlandsPeople (I have tried every variation of the name, tried using *).
There is a newspaper report dated May 1865 referring to a John Pitcairns being involved in an accident at a foundry where his leg was broken in 2 places. I have found several trees on Ancestry, quoting a date of death as 13 or 30 May 1865 in Dunfermline with the cause being 'a leg fracture that he suffered with for 11 days'.
I've tried contacting the owners of the trees without any success.
Can anyone shed any light on why there would be no record showing on ScotlandsPeople. or how I can verify his death record?

Armed Forces / WW1 Uniform Help Needed
« on: Saturday 16 September 17 20:00 BST (UK)  »
Can anyone please help to identify which uniform this is? The youngster in the picture was born in 1913 which would possibly date the photo to around 1915. We know that the family lived near Kirkcaldy at the time but don't know anything about his military career.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I have traced several relatives whose between 1850s and 1920s whose address is given as Braeheads, Fraserburgh and latterly as 52 Braeheads, Fraserburgh. However, having checked various old maps I can't find the location of Braeheads. Can anyone shed any light as to where this would be?

Thanks

Aberdeenshire / Fraserburgh Pilot
« on: Thursday 18 May 17 12:49 BST (UK)  »
My great-great grandfather, Alexander Noble of Shore Street, Fraserburgh, has his occupation listed in the 1871 and 1881 Census as Pilot. Can anyone shed some light on what this occupation actually is? I'm assuming it's a role linked to the harbour but any details would be great. Was this a common or prestigious role?

Thanks

Aberdeenshire / Uniform Query
« on: Wednesday 10 May 17 17:16 BST (UK)  »
This photo belonged to my great uncle Alexander (Sandy) Stephen who lived in Fraserburgh from 1905 to 1980s. I'm trying to work out who the gentleman in the photo is. It's attached to professional looking card although it doesn't have any photographer/studio details. I'm hoping he's from Fraserburgh but can't be certain.
Does anybody recognise the uniform he's wearing? I don't think it's military although it does have a distinct hat badge.
