« on: Sunday 25 February 07 11:02 GMT (UK)  »
Is it too much to hope that you might have come across some Boyds & Weatherups in your Carnmoney research ? If you have , I'd love to hear of them, as my family were from around this area.

Antrim / WW! Nurses
« on: Sunday 07 May 06 08:13 BST (UK)  »
I have a photo of my grandfather, William Hamilton Clarke, & his sister, Alice Clarke,he in his military uniform, she in
a very fetching nurses outfit, & wearing an armband with the letters U.W.E
Ulster seems likely, W for War? Women? E for Emergency ? Effort?I've googled until my eyes prickle, University of West England assures me they had no Nursing School then, can't find any possibilities, hoping someone else might have suggestions ! regards Coral.
PS Have fallen deeply in love with Family TreeMaker ! 14/1 Please see attached photo of  Alice in her very prim & proper nurses uniform ! As you can see, initials are very clear.

Antrim / Boyd Family Tree
« on: Saturday 29 April 06 02:25 BST (UK)  »
My theory is that if I ask a lot of different questions, someone out there will have an answer to one of them !So, Boyds of Carrickfergus ?James, late 1700's, a recurring family name, showing up generation after generation, also lots of Davids, Williams & Thomas's.Straid & Ballynure recur as placenames, and they marry into the Weatherup family from time to time, farmers and mariners(unsurprising, given the location !) Eagerly awaiting answers, make my day!!

Dublin / Mckibbil,Elizabeth, Dublin,1880's
« on: Friday 21 April 06 13:11 BST (UK)  »
Dear fellow-treasure-hunters, Now that I have my paternal grandfathers birth certificate I'm trying to spin a web from the following information-William Hamilton Clarke, d.o.b. 25/7/1884, Chapelizod. Father William Clarke, surveyor.mother Elizabeth Mckibbil (?), nee/formerly  Hamilton. McKibbil seems an unlikely spelling, maybe McKibble? As Mckibbil seems like a surname I'm wondering if she had a first husband ,surname Hamilton, before marrying into the Clarke family, or perhaps McKibble is her mothers maiden name? Hoping for some info, maybe some one can place them in a Dublin Street Diectory ? Regards, Coral

Antrim Completed Look up Requests / Subscription sites-Recommendations ?
« on: Wednesday 05 April 06 11:03 BST (UK)  »
Living in Australia & researching mainly in Carrickfergus & surrounding townships,(with 1 Grandfather from Dublin)I've been doing as much net trawling as I can, plus posting on various sites, plus using the facilities of the local Mormon Family History Centre microfilms (working full time doesn't allow me a great deal of access to their files, as I can't get there during business hours) and have joined Genes Reunited, but find a lot of available info is US oriented. Does anyone have any recommendations re sites with an Ulster bias ? I've invested in the computer & printer- scanner, and am getting certificates as I can afford them, and have sufficient info to order them, but feel a good site would make a big difference to my efforts, (and avoid ordering the wrong things at times, too. As someone new to this, I'm never sure if I'm doing things in the best way, so any advice or suggestions would be great. Regards, Coral

Antrim / WW1 Nurses Ulster
« on: Monday 20 March 06 13:26 GMT (UK)  »
Dear Fellow Treasure Hunters!
In a WW1 photo, my grandfathers sister, Alice Clarke, is wearing a nurses uniform, with an armband bearing the initials UWE....., maybe more, unfortunately no more is visible. I'm thinking Ulster War Effort? Ulster Womens Emergency.....,any clues ? I've trawled the net and come up with nothing, UWE is a nursing college, but wasn't then, and none of my look ups on WW 1 sites have been informative, so its over to the experts ! regards,
Coral

Antrim / James McIwaine,wife Annie Condy,Carrickfergus
« on: Sunday 22 January 06 05:40 GMT (UK)  »
 :D Anthony,
In response to information you posted re James McIlwaine, Greengrocer,North St .Carrickfergus, was this information from the 1911 census, and if so,does it list others of the household, or give any further information that might be helpful to me ? I've been told all  information I list on my tree also needs to be accompanied by some sort of quailification as to its provenance,e.g., family records, hearsay, census, parish records etc.  I can see this is going to be a major learning curve for me!!

Family research in Ireland isn't easy when a) I'm very new to this, & b) I'm in Queensland,Australia  ! I'm currently looking at late 19th, early 20th century Carrickfergus, David Boyd ,shipwright, married Margaret McCrea, and James McIlwaine, gardener, married Annie Condy (had a wee shop in Carrickfergus).David had a son, also David,12/11/1890, later re-married.James & Annie had a daughter, Eva 11/11/1892.hoping this might interlock with someone elses research- Coral
