World War One / Andrew More Barr Highland Light Infantry
« on: Wednesday 14 June 17 20:24 BST (UK)  »
Hello

Andrew Barr was killed on 26/8/1918 and is buried in Croisilles, France. He was with 1/7th HLI.

However, on the birth cert of his son born 1916 which he signed, he gives his regt as 1/5th HLI

Was he in 1/5 and then joined 1/7 - maybe after a wound or something? Anyone help?

Lanarkshire / Brick wall overdue for demolition!!
« on: Sunday 11 June 17 11:00 BST (UK)  »
Hi all

James White born in Partick in 1858 - son of James White and Ann McKay. I have seen his birth cert on SP.
He appears in 1861 and 1871 in Anderston, Glasgow aged 14. Then absolutely nothing after 1871!!

I cannot find him in any deaths or marriage index since then. I had thought that he may have died between 1871 and 1881 ... but no sign of him.

Can anyone help or should I just leave it at that?

Need help to solve this problem.

Robert Milligan married Margaret Mackie - not sure but maybe 1840's. Margaret dies AGED 44 in 1865. Death certificate in Anderston, Glasgow.
Sorry no other information.
Margaret described as widow of Robert Milligan "steam boat stoker". Boy do I need help finding Robert's death either in Scotland from 1855 or elsewhere.
Can anyone help find Robert's death?

Lanarkshire / Glasgow birth 1910
« on: Tuesday 06 June 17 10:55 BST (UK)  »
Great granny was living with her mother and mother's boyfriend in Glasgow 1910. The mother left her husband 10 years back and her and child used boyfriends surname - dont know why!

Anyway great granny has illegimate child in 1910 and registers baby with mothers boyfriends surname. Something I always thought of as a bit strange? If she didnt want to use childs father's name (which remains mystery to this day) then why not use her birth father surname?

any thoghts out there?
