Aberdeenshire / 2 weddings in 2 days...same couple?
« on: Tuesday 17 October 17 14:03 BST (UK)  »
Hi,
I really need some help on this please. I have Elizabeth Davidson & James Davidson marrying on 20/9/1790 in Aboyne, Aberdeenshire and Elizabeth Davidson & James Davidson marrying on 21/9/1790 in Birse, Aberdeenshire. I'm assuming it's unlikely that the same couple had 2 weddings?
The James & Elizabeth I am looking for had a daughter, Elizabeth, in around 1801 who married James Ritchie in Birse 1825. If anyone can shed any light it would be much appreciated.
TIA

World War One / W6 Telegram?
« on: Tuesday 15 August 17 18:26 BST (UK)  »
Hi,
I was hoping someone could tell me if they know what a W6 Telegram is?
On my gt grandfathers military papers the following is noted "W6 telegram B(?) 1125/ a g f(?)
d/ 20-12-16" He survived the war, so I know the telegram doesn't relate to his death, am wondering if perhaps one of his sons or brothers was KIA?

any help or pointers on where to find help would be great.

Handwriting Deciphering & Recognition / Help with Army pension record 1814
« on: Monday 10 July 17 00:45 BST (UK)  »
Hi, any help with this would be greatly appreciated... I have a British Army pension record for Thomas McGraw from 1814. The way the Royal Regiment of Artillery was organised at that time used the Captain's name instead of a regimental number...which is annoying as I cannot for the life of me decipher it..

thanks in advance

Ireland / KERR/McARDLE heeeelp!
« on: Monday 26 June 17 02:56 BST (UK)  »
I have been butting my head against this brick wall for what seems like decades... My 3xg-grandparents were Patrick KERR & Mary McARDLE. Patrick died before 1878 possibly somewhere in Ireland. Mary McARDLE died in Glasgow 1896 and had at least 2 sons, Patrick & James. Mary's parents were Owen McARDLE & Catherine COYLE. I can find no records of anyone but Mary and her sons in Scotland, Patrick KERR (jr) is listed as born in Ireland in the 1861 census, but after that I draw a blank..any info or tips would be appreciated
TIA

Derry (Londonderry) / DOHERTY/McCOURT
« on: Monday 19 June 17 11:47 BST (UK)  »
Hi, I was wondering if anyone had any knowledge of or certificates for Denis DOHERTY, Blacksmith, possibly born in Derry or Donegal who married Ellen McCOURT from Derry (allegedly ???) Denis was born circa 1819, have no idea of Ellen's year of birth, but she was dead by 1901. They settled in Artigarvan, Co. Tyrone at some point after 1854.
Any info or advice would be great,
TIA

Lanarkshire / Charles Doherty/Docherty, Blacksmith
« on: Saturday 17 June 17 01:35 BST (UK)  »
Hi,
I'm hoping someone may have a bit of info on my gg grandad Charles Doherty. I have his marriage details as follows:
31st October 1879 in St Patrick's Chapel, Anderston, Glasgow. Charles Doherty, blacksmith (journeyman) bachelor aged 25. Residing at 22 Perth Street, Glasgow. father Denis Doherty blacksmith (master) and Ellen M.S McCoist or McCourt.
Mary Ann McMullen, Cotton factory worker aged 21. Residing at 63 Piccadilly street Glasgow. father Bernard McMullen, Quay labourer and Bridget M.S Mitchell.

Their son James was born in 1887, and Mary Ann died of TB in 1888. After that he just seems to disappear. I found a Charles Docherty, blacksmith in 1891 census boarding in Monkland street, Glasgow. No sign of James, both of them disappear until james marries my g granny, Elizabeth McGraw in 1912. if anyone knows anything about Charles's birth, death or any subsequent marriages it would be great..
many thanks
