Scotland / John Crawford b. c1835 , death between 1881 - 1894 ?
« on: Monday 09 October 17 13:59 BST (UK)  »
Hi
I am really stuck. John Crawford appears in 1881 census in Alloa aged 46. Job a slater.
In 1871 he is in Kilsyth aged 35 and a slater. In both entries born Glasgow.

His daughter died in Edinburgh in 1894. On death certificate he is stated as deceased.

I think he died between 1881-1894. I can't find him in 1891 census or in any death indexes on SP. Any search suggestions would be great.

thanks

Would there be a PF report or anything else? Where could I find them?  thanks in advance.

Armed Forces / Officer on half-pay 1817-1832
« on: Thursday 07 September 17 19:10 BST (UK)  »
My ancestor came home to Scotland after his regiment was reduced in 1817. He was a Captain on half-pay. His service return of 1828 confirms he was till on it then and remained until death in 1832.

Would his half-pay have been enough to live on during this period or would he have had to work too?

Any thoughts or help would be helpful. Thanks

Other Countries / Ceylon - children born to an officer
« on: Friday 01 September 17 14:46 BST (UK)  »
Ancestor joined the 51st regt in 1790. Became an officer in 3rd Ceylon regt in 1805. One child born 1805 and another born in 1814. Exact names and dates know.

Ancestor, John White returned to UK in 1819.

His wife Joanna or Johanna Day died in Scotland 1821.

How can I find the childrens birth entries if they exist and even better date for marriage? I cannot find the marriage anywhere in UK.
Maybe their was no marriage?

Thanks

World War One / Highland Light Infantry
« on: Wednesday 09 August 17 09:42 BST (UK)  »
My grand-father is recorded in his sons birth certificate in 1916 as - Segeant in 1/5 Highland Light Infantry.

However, he then is a Lance corporal in the 1/7 HLI in 1918 . He was killed in Aug 1918. Andrew Barr 260252 1/7 HLI

From the basic word of mouth from family members now dead - he was wounded in 1915 - and maybe discharged?

Where can I find out more about him being discharged and recalled or rejoining for duty? Thanks

William
