London and Middlesex / Mansfield Street, Southwark
« on: Tuesday 23 January 24 15:53 GMT (UK)  »
Good Afternoon

I was just wondering if anyone has any information about Mansfield Street in Southwark.
I have a birth in 1873, which I can't find registered . However on the 1911 census the lady gives her birthplace as Mansfield Street, London.
Was there a house there that maybe was for unmarried mothers, the mother herself coming from a village in Essex and aged about 25 at the time of the birth

Would be grateful for any help

Antrim / Maggie McClure 1889
« on: Monday 12 October 20 16:36 BST (UK)  »
Hi All

Whilst researching my Scottish ancestors, on a birth certificate  I found the couple were married in Belfast.
Never having to do any research in Ireland before I was interested in finding out more about the bride who I presume was Irish.
She was Maggie McClure and married Edward McGiveran on July 3rd 1889 in Belfast. He was born in Coatbridge Scotland in 1866.

So any information on Maggie McClure and her family would be appreciated, or pointers as to where I may look for information.

Thanking you in anticipation

Cheers

Essex / Hazeleigh address
« on: Saturday 30 January 16 12:51 GMT (UK)  »
Hi All

Just wondering if someone could point me in the right direction regarding an address in Hazeleigh.

I have a map dated 1928 with the cottage name on it. A later map dated 1958 has the same property with a new name.
I can't find the cottage on more modern maps, however there does seem to be property there on google maps.

Who would I best be getting in contact with regarding building etc and planning for Hazeleigh.
The cottage in question was where my mother in law was born in 1920 and although we searched for it a few years ago were unable to find anything at the time, however I have only just found these maps.

Thanking you in anticipation

London and Middlesex / Prisoner in 1881 Census
« on: Thursday 30 October 14 19:10 GMT (UK)  »
Hi

I've just found ( I think ) a relative in the 1881 census in Wandsworth Common prison.
He only married in 1877, so the offence must have been quite recent. Where can I look to find some information about the crime committed and length of sentence?
I have looked in 19th Century newspapers and Old Bailey records, but have had no success.

Would welcome your thoughts/ideas.

Thank you
Erika :)

Oxfordshire / 1861 Census - Woodstock
« on: Tuesday 11 February 14 19:00 GMT (UK)  »
Evening All

Could anyone tell me if there is a problem with finding Woodstock in the 1861 census please?
When trying to do a search in County - Oxfordshire - and then Civil Parish - Woodstock - nothing comes up! Does Woodstock appear under another Civil Parish?

Would be pleased to hear your thoughts, thank you

Cheers
