Channel Islands Resources & Offers / Marie Francois Dufrene m. Jean Payn
« on: Sunday 11 October 20 17:35 BST (UK)  »
Hello!

I am hoping someone with more expertise that me might be able to help. I am helping a friend with their family history and discovered that they are from Jersey. This is what I have found so far:

Marie married Jean Payne in St. Hellier on 9 April 1831 in St. Hellier. She was from Granville (I think) in France and he was form Nantes.

Fast forward on to a directory in 1839 where I find Mary Payne at 24 Queen Street owning a Fancy Repository. No sign of Jean Payne but he must be somewhere as they have children later on.

Fast forward again to 1851 where I find Mary Payn, a Jeweller, living with her children: Alphonse, Mary, Armand, Alfred, and Angeline.

So my questions are:

(1) Where would I find a death record?
(2) Is there an 1841 Census for Jersey?
(3) Can I find out anything more about her business?

Thanks,
Hannah

WW1 In Memoriam / Stobs Military Camp
« on: Friday 29 June 18 20:04 BST (UK)  »
Hello all,

We intend to create a research center based in Hawick, Scotland, in the coming year. We will be making as much material available online as possible particularly relating to Stobs Military Camp. As part of this we will be identifying as many soldiers and prisoners from the camp as possible. If you had a relative that was at Stobs I would love to hear from you! I really want this to be an amazing resource for anyone researching their family history and a commemoration of the events that took place at the camp.

Please email me through rootschat and I can supply you with my home email. The beginning of the website is www.stobscamp.org.

Thank you all in advance,
Hannah

Putting life back into history!

As a child I remember listening to my grandparents’ stories of the good ol’ days. History was no longer events, dates, and places but people. My love of research has enabled me to pursue study in Genealogy and Local History. I hold a Bachelor of Arts in History from St. Stephen University, a postgraduate Diploma in Local History from Oxford University and a professional development course in Genealogy from Oplex Careers.

I am a Professional Genealogist and Local History Researcher based in the Scottish Borders. I have been working as a family tree researcher based at a local archive for the past few years.

Are you starting from scratch and need advice? Get in touch! [Free half hour consults.] Have you started on your family tree but don’t have the time anymore? I can help. Hit a brick wall? I will do my best to help you get over it.

If you are just looking for a specific record let me get it for you from certificates to poor law records. I am within easy access of Edinburgh, the Heritage Hub in the Scottish Borders, and Newcastle.

You can select either a fixed price family tree research package or get something tailor made to your request.

Scotland is my area of specialty but I have used Canadian, American, English, and Welsh records for my own family tree research.
