Hi all

This relates to my other thread (https://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php?topic=842674.0)

Can anyone make out the name of the daughter than has been scored out on Ann McCartans death cert?

Here is the full page for anyone that wants to see it - https://civilrecords.irishgenealogy.ie/churchrecords/images/deaths_returns/deaths_1887/06228/4782316.pdf

Down / McCartans of Glassdrumman, Annalong
« on: Monday 11 January 21 17:10 GMT (UK)  »
Hi Everyone

Looking for some help here - as have already gone on one wild goose chase and had the wrong branch of the McCartan family...

I have a John McCartan married Ellen Polin in 1904 (Marriage - https://civilrecords.irishgenealogy.ie/churchrecords/images/marriage_returns/marriages_1904/10188/5707127.pdf)

Here is Ellen and the Children in 1911

http://www.census.nationalarchives.ie/pages/1911/Down/Mullartown/Glasdrumman/244490/

So all i know for sure is the John is from Glassdrumman, is a farmer and his father Arthur is dead, and that Ellen and John aren't together on the night of the census.

The above bits i am sure of, but not sure of what i have found since then...

I started searching the 1901 census for John and found
http://www.census.nationalarchives.ie/pages/1901/Down/Mullarton/Glasdrumman/1235249/ but initially ruled him but the more i look at the the more it seems right...

In 1911 - there is a John Living alone aged 64, but now married - http://www.census.nationalarchives.ie/pages/1911/Down/Mullartown/Glasdrumman/244494/, so this fits with Ellen not living with her husband (Although they do have another child in 1912).

Looking into this a bit a more - traced the land via valuation revision books  (plot 41, Glasdrumman), and it passes from an Arthur, to Ann in 1885, and then to John in 1888..so this all fits... (Have attached the page of these books)

Arthur dies on 15 Sept 1883 with daughter Eliza McGreavy Present (Eliza married Richard McGreavy and i am able to trace this family)

Ann, of Glasdrumman dies in 1887, son John present at death (Place listed as Brockagh...or similar - have attached the death cert to see if anyone can make it out? - it appears as if a daughter was initially listed and then scored out - and i can't make her name out - Mary

Ellen dies aged 44 in 1915 and John dies aged 73, in 1917 as as widow.

So am i trying to make things fit, or does this sound right?

Anyone able to help shed anymore light on this.

If the above is right - Arthur has at least 2 children - Eliza and John and his wife is Ann (possibly Higgins?? - a search of Ros Davies, shows a John born to Arthur McCartan and Ann Higgins). Anyone able to help find any more children, or Arthur & Ann's wedding?

Down / Look up Request - Henry Carlin
« on: Thursday 13 June 19 13:52 BST (UK)  »
Hi

Wondering if anyone can help

I have a Henry Carlin born c. 1860, From wills (Henry Carlin Senior died 1891) and land records his father is Henry Carlin also living in Brolough (Crossgar/Kilmore).

He married an Ann Rogan in 1892 and they had a daughter Margaret in 1893.

There doesn't seem to be a civil record for the marriage but I think the parish records exists on ulster historical foundation and rootsireland.
(Kilmore/crossgar not in NLI)

Henry (Henry's father) died in 1891 - but again no civil record seems to exist.

Henry has a sister Margaret and another sister who's name I can't make out.

So if anyone can help with this much appreciated!

- Its the marriage record for Henry Carlin & Ann Rogan I am looking and possibly birth details for Henry and his sister Margaret and other sister (Anna or Amelia possibly)

Hi everyone

looking for some help tracing the above family

Patrick Doyle (born c.1865, Co Down) married Mary Anne O'Rourke (born 1870, Co Down) in 1895 in new York in November 1895, and their first child John was born in USA.

Their daughter Mary Anne was born in Ireland on 15 May 1899.

The must therefore have return to Ireland between 1896 and 1899 - and I am not having any luck finding them on a passenger list.

This is them on the 1901 census in Ireland
http://www.census.nationalarchives.ie/pages/1901/Down/Ballybrick/Ballybrick/1207514/

and in 1911
http://www.census.nationalarchives.ie/pages/1911/Down/Moneyslane/Deehomed/204775/

The son John returned to the USA, when he was older as did some of his siblings, but its the family coming home pre 1899 that I can't find details of

I am looking for details of the Doyle family in Ireland, so any help much appreciated.

I know Patrick's parents are Margaret Sawey and John Doyle (as per his marriage) but this is all I have so far.

This is me working backwards from someone I know is related to try and find the connection!

United States of America / Annotations on Immigration documents
« on: Friday 04 January 19 15:33 GMT (UK)  »
Hi

I have difficulty reading the annotations of Mary and Elizabeth Rafferty on the attached ships manifest - Aliens held for special Enquiry

From what I can gather they were admitted to the US on 30.10.1928 (same day as everyone else)

Reason for detention is ...C and LPC - I understand that LPC is likely public charge, but I can't decipher the first set if initials

Anyone able to help me understand what the reason for being held was, and what it meant?

Hi all

I am looking for a bit of help unraveling a bit of a mystery

I have a death certificate for a Ellen Poland in Ireland died 21 Aug 1886
https://civilrecords.irishgenealogy.ie/churchrecords/images/deaths_returns/deaths_1886/06243/4787386.pdf

Present at the death is a Marjory Kitts, daughter in law Glasgow.

I found an Arthur McPoland, married Marjory Greer in Banbridge in 1863
They seem to have moved to Scotland in before 1866 (Had 1 child in Ireland, who died in Glasgow in 1867) and had 2 more children - James b 1866 and Arthur born 1869

I have found this family as Pollands in the 1871 census in Scotland - 644/1 82/ 11
Father Arthur is a carter.

Now I am trying to see if I can tie this into Marjory Kitts?

I have found a Marjory Kitts in 1881 in Glasgow, from Ireland, but her age is out as she is only 29?
Her children though are James and Arthur - ages 15 and 12 both born Glasgow, and I can't find any Arthur or James Kitts born in Glasgow. I know this is unlikely to be them given then age- but looking for anything now!

The McPoland name seems to be McPoland, Mcpolland, McPolin, Polland, Poland, Pollin so they are a bit elusive!

Any help finding out anything more about Arthur, Margery and the children in Glasgow, would be great!

Down / Margaret Doyle and James Conalty - married 1846, first child 1850?
« on: Thursday 13 September 18 20:11 BST (UK)  »
Hi everyone - me looking help again.

I have the above couple James Conalty (probably actually McNulty!) and Margaret Doyle that got married in Drumgooland Lower in 1846 - and the witness was my gg gran Agnes Doyle.

I have searched for their children but think might be missing some especially as the first isn't to 4 years after they get married!

I have
Ann (1850) - transcribed as Conatty
Mary (1854) - again Conatty
Michael (1856)
John (1859)
Cath (1860)
and Susannah (1864) (She marries James Burns in 1897)

I am particular looking for any with a godparent Agnes Doyle (or Murray from 1857 onwards).

I am also looking Margarets parents - all I know is she is from Decomet - and there is lots of Doyles in the Tithe books for the 1820's - so very grateful for any help!
