Hertfordshire Lookup Requests / ETTERSHANK Burial
« on: Sunday 13 May 07 04:10 BST (UK)  »
I am looking for the place of burial of John Ettershank, who died in the house of his daughter Amy Ettershank. Amy was married to Samuel Chew Hooper; their home was Scotsbridge House, Rickmansworth. He died 8 July 1912. I assume Amy died about the same time, because her husband was on a shipping list in Canada soon thereafter, with his daughter and a nurse, and he is listed as a widower. If you have any information of any of these people I would be most grateful.

Norfolk / Eke, James, b. abt 1831
« on: Monday 01 January 07 05:19 GMT (UK)  »
Can anyone give me the antecedents of this James Eke? He is recorded in the 1851 Census as the nephew of Aquila Eke, a blacksmith in Drayton, Norfolk. I have Aquila's ancestry tied down fairly well, but I can't find a brother or sister of his with a son James.
Appreciate any help,
George.

« on: Tuesday 09 May 06 07:19 BST (UK)  »
I am trying to trace the antecedents of one Aquilla Eke, born 20 Dec 1801 in Hindolveston. He married Frances Goss and produced 10 children, mostly in Drayton, where he lived out his life as a blacksmith. His son Aquilla did the ironwork for the Chapel Fields Garden in Norwich.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. What a great first name, Aquilla! (in some census data iit is spelled with one l)
Thanks, George.

I am looking for information on Christina Eaglestone. She married John Edward Ettershank (b. 6/4/1831, Ratho) around 1850, in Scotland. They migrated to Austalia as husband and wife from Liverpool on SS Kalmia, arriving Dec 1852. They were accompanied by John’s brother Edward Lothian Ettershank and Christina’s brother William. Any information about the Eaglestone family would be gratefully received!

Glamorganshire / David Macnamara born Gower round 1800
« on: Wednesday 08 March 06 10:50 GMT (UK)  »
I am looking for info on David Macnamara who married Elizabeth and had their first child, David, in 1833. David Sr must have died before 1847 as Elizabeth then married David Pugh and they had a son, John, in 1847 (census 1851).
David Macnamara and Elizabeth had 6 children, the last of whom was my great-great-grandfather, William Henry, born 1842 at Taibach where his father was a pilot. The other children were born in Mumbles.
I'd like to know who David's parents were so any help will be much appreciated.

Lanarkshire / Stewart-Ettershank-Higgins Lanark
« on: Monday 13 February 06 00:40 GMT (UK)  »
My great great grandmother, born Catherine Higgins 1815, married James Stewart 7/8/1856, after the death of my grandfather, George Ettershank. She had two sons by her first marriage, my grandfather James Ettershank b. 9/11/1850) and George (b. 8/1/1854) who died in childhood.
I found James and Catherine in the 1871 census in Lanark. It appears as if James had a daughter Mary (b. 1852) already, and then they had three more, Elisa, Andrew and Catherine in ca. 1856, 1862 and 1867 respectively.
On the marriage certificate, James' parents are John Stewart and Martha Crawford.
Can anyone give further information about this family and any descendants.

Lanarkshire / George Ettershank in Barony/Glasgow
« on: Wednesday 08 February 06 11:07 GMT (UK)  »
I am looking for my great grandfather, George Ettershank. I find him in Barony, Glasgow, marrying: The entry in the Register of Banns and Marriages (we have the copy) says "George Ettershank Spirit Dealer Anderston & Catherine Higgins residing there. Married at Glasgow the 13th day of November 1848 by the Rev David Mitchell, minister of the Free St Lukes Church Catton Barony Parish."
I think he could be the son of James Ettershank and Margaret Alexander, b. 1822 in Kincardine O'Neil; they had a George. If he is the son of James and Margaret, in 1841 he was a servant in an inn in Union Street, Aberdeen (1841 census).
My great grandfather worked in  hotels in Glasgow as a porter etc. - same trade?
He had two sons, James b.9/11/1850 and George b. 8/1/1854
My great grandmother Catherine married James Stewart 7/8/1856 - so James must have been dead.
Can anyone assist me?
George.
