Fife / fishermen lost at sea
« on: Tuesday 04 January 11 17:07 GMT (UK)  »
I have been trying to trace my 3xGG David Fairfoul who married Mary Mcdiarmid in Newburgh on the 2nd of April 1846. I can find no suitable births for him at scotlands people site or a death for him. On the census of 1851 Mary is a seamans wife, so I am assuming as he isn't on with the family he is at sea. By the 1871 she is a widow. Peter thier last child was born in 1856, so he must have died somwhere between his conception and the 1871 census. I cannot find any death for him at all and wondered if he were lost at sea would he have a death cert ? Also would such a death make the local papers if there were such things. Would there be an enquiery or would it just be forgotten? Any helpful ideas or info would be great. Dandylion. :)

Yorkshire (West Riding) / William and Ellen Charlesworth.
« on: Saturday 20 February 10 11:27 GMT (UK)  »
Hi,does anyone have any info on William and Ellen Charlesworth? I know that Ellen was originaly Ellen Parkin born 1827 in Worsbourgh, she married John Riley in 1844 and had a son Henry born 1844. Then she married William in 1848 in Ardsley and they had at least 7 children including Joseph who I am reserching. I can't find a deffinate birth for father William, does anyone have any more info on him? Another mystery I have come across is that acording to the 1891 census Joseph was married to a Louisa fron the USA, but on the 1901 census he is a widower and louisa is a visiting widow calling herself Louisa Barton! The children are still on the census but Jessie is now a visitor and also called Barton. I can find no record of a marriage of Joseph and Louisa either in England or the USA. This has me stumped, any ideas where I can go with this?     Thanks, Rowena.

Occupation Interests / Joseph Pointon footballer

My husbands maternal grandfather was a professional footballer sometime in the 20s we think. We know he played for Port Vale and possibly Southampton or Portsmouth. He was from Leek and is buried in the local cemetery along with his wife and one daughter. He died quite young so we have little info on his footballing years. Anyone with football club histories can you have a look for me please.

Fife / fairfouls in fife

I am trying to find my family roots in Fife and just over the border in Perthshire. There is a conection with Abernethy and Auchtermuchty through my grandfather Peter and his brother George who stayed there a lot. I have photos of my dad (David) and his brother Peter in Abernethy when they were young. I think a relative had a shop there. If you can help me trace anybody there either living or dead I would be very greatful.
