The Common Room / New website for uploading family tree

Has anyone used zoompast.org?
I can't see much benefit. It seems you can only add names and dates so please tell me if I'm missing something.

Alderney, Guernsey, Jersey, Sark / Martha Henry
« on: Wednesday 07 January 15 18:41 GMT (UK)  »
I have a 3 x gt grandmother named Martha Henry who married Thomas Chilwell in St Dunstan's, Stepney, London, in 1801.
Whilst searching for something else I came across reference to these ancestors on My Heritage Family Tree website. This states that Martha Henry was born in quote"St Perre Port Guernsey"on 25 May 1766. How accurate this is I do not know. I suspect St Peter Port is what is meant. Would it be likely that she travelled to London in search of work? Thomas was a wine merchant so they could have met at the port.
Can anyone confirm that this Martha Henry did indeed come from Guernsey?
It would be interesting to have a Channel Island ancestor!
Thanks
Caroline

Born on 26 May 1890 to Joseph and Mary Anne Chilwell who had a chemist's shop on Oxford St, London. Eric Robert Chilwell was an auctioneer's clerk living in Chiswick in 1911. When he was a boy his family had moved to Tamworth, Staffs, where he attended the Grammar School.
In March 1915 he writes to his parents from the Tower of London having joined the Honourable Artillery Company.
In July 1915 he was sent to France. On 18 March 1915 he was commissioned Second Lieutenant.
In September 1916 he had recently had a few days' leave in Paris, where he stayed in a hotel and enjoyed hot water and a bath as well as seeing the sights for the first time. On the 16th whilst leading his men in an assault on an enemy position he was killed by a sniper's bullet.
He is remembered on the Thiepval Memorial, and copies of his letters are in the Imperial War Museum. The details of life in the trenches are remarkable but they don't convey the full horror that we associate with that experience. Perhaps he was sheltering his parents from the real truth.
He has the distinction of being the only casualty of the First World War named Chilwell.
By his great-Neice.

Leicestershire / Where is Milly's grave? (Fenny Drayton or area)
« on: Tuesday 08 January 13 16:18 GMT (UK)  »
I hope someone can identify where this grave is and whose it is. The shaky photo is in a family album along with photos of Fenny Drayton church. It is labelled "Milly's grave".
Also in the album are Higham on the Hill, Dadlington and Ashby de la Zouch. It would be great to find out who Milly was.

Occupation Interests / Gobber
« on: Wednesday 05 December 12 10:51 GMT (UK)  »
This is a good name for an occupation!
I am researching coal-mining in the area where I live and on the 1911 census one person described himself as a "coal miner above ground - gobber". Looking in the dictionary "gob" is waste used to fill holes after coal-mining so I suppose this occupation is someone who fills in the holes.
Just thought someone else might find this useful or have more information.

For Sale / Wanted / Events / Mason College, Birmingham University - etching
« on: Tuesday 02 October 12 16:41 BST (UK)  »
Was this your or your ancestor's alma mater?
It was my late father's and I now have an original etching for sale. Made in the 1930s by the look of the cars parked outside, it is a street scene featuring the college from the side.
I can post to anyone who wants it, for a reasonable cost. If interested, send me a private message.
