Family History Beginners Board / Helps please - various names and dates

Hello!
I have found out I'm part scottish on my mothers, mothers, side and not the purebred geordie I thought I was lol
.
The other thing is its one of the most common names researched! Wilson.
My gt Grandfather was called Joseph "Dyer" Wilson born 04/04/1875 govan , lanarkshire
death Dec/1936 age 61
I have gone further back than him to James Wilson the first. born 1715.
I have looked to see if I can find a link to the either clan gunn or clan innes but cant seem to join the dots! any help in connecting these dots would be appreciated
And also for my mother who would like to know what Albert Victor Surtees 1888 - 1952( her paternal grandfather) did for a living.
I'm sure if I have posted incorrectly some kind moderator will help post in the correct place. also hope your site may have an expert on clans
