Family History Beginners Board / Wanting help finding David John Ambrose b 25/05/1955
« on: Wednesday 15 November 23 08:06 GMT (UK)  »
Hi, I haven't been on here for quite some time.  I have recently found out that David John Ambrose is my full sibling brother - given up at birth for adoption.  We have obtained the Adoption Information Certificate, which is how I know now his name.

His adoptive parents are Alexander Ambrose and Olive May Ambrose (nee Hall).

The lastest information I can find is that in 1977 they were all living at 13 Russell Street, Young.  David was 22yo and a student.   1980 The parents are still at 13 Russell Street, Young and also a Wayne Alexander Ambrose, but I can't find anything more about any of them.

I have sent away for more information from the Post Adoption Agency to try to find any marriage or death information, but just thought I'd reach out to see if anyone can find anything.

The birth was in Elsternwick, Victoria and private solicitors handled the adoption.

Thanks, Wendy

Hello

I am wondering if anyone would be able to fix up this photo.

It was taken on the day of the wedding of William Bennett to Fanny Ratcliff - 13th May 1890, in England.

Thank you

Australia / Victorian birth - Valerie Margaret Anne GUNTON
« on: Saturday 25 January 20 05:58 GMT (UK)  »
Hi,

I am trying to find birth records for Valerie Margaret Anne Gunton who I believe was born in 1943.  She died on 31 May 1976 and at the time had the surname Beetz.  EDIT:  sorry birth was probably earlier than 1943 as she had a 15 year old son when she died in 1976.

I've tried Ancestry, Trove, BDM (can't access births since 1920).  I have found her Will and Probate file number on PROV, but not sure if her date of birth would be in those records in any event.

Thanks
Wendy

US Lookup Requests / Help with US searching - Family name Souz
« on: Thursday 05 September 19 06:24 BST (UK)  »
Hello,

I haven't searched any US records before and am struggling to find information via Ancestry also.

I have a Frank Peter Souz born in perhaps Seattle around 1873 or 1877.  His parents were possible a Jack Souz and Mary Ann Jane ?

He arrived at Newcastle, Australia in December 1894 on the "Harry Morse" from San Fransisco.  He married on 21/10/1899 and died on 21/1/1932.    His death certificate shows his parents as "unknown".

Any help would be much appreciated.

Regards

Wendy

The Common Room / RootsMagic 7
« on: Sunday 25 August 19 01:52 BST (UK)  »
Hi all,
I'm at the stage where I have found information about my ancestors and have written it up.  I now want to publish it online.  After a bit of research I purchased RootsMagic 7 as it says you can publish online directly from it.   I was impressed with the way my Ancestry GEDCOM imported into RootsMagic along with all the media etc, HOWEVER, the online page is very disappointing and it doesn't include the media!
I see that RootsMagic 8 is going to be released soon.

Does anyone know if they are improving the online tree presentation?

Or can you recommend another site ?

Many thanks
Wendy Bennett

The Common Room / George Montague (1797 - 1858) of Marylebone, Middlesex
« on: Friday 16 August 19 07:55 BST (UK)  »
Hello,

I am after some help with my research into George Montague and Jane Howard - my 3rd great grandparents.   I am getting mixed information from Ancestry about their children and as it appears all but one were born prior to the GRO search date (1837) I am a bit stuck!  Here's what I have:-

George Montague - b. 11/2/1797 in Marylebone, Middlesex  d. 30/3/1858
Jane Howard - b. 1/5/1800 at Bradford on Avon d. 17/12/1882
They married on 17/10/1822 at Parish Chapel, St Pancras.   These are various records I have found for their children:

1.  Sarah Ann Montague - b.22/5/1823
2.  Elizabeth Jane Montague and
3.  George Henry Montague - 4/3/1825 - twins ?
4.  Thomas Howard Montague - 1827
5.  Thomas I Montague - 1828
6.  James Alfred Montague - 1828 (died 1830?)
7.  Joseph Montague  1831 (died 1832?)
8.  Joseph Ebenezer Montague - 1832
9.   Emily Eliza Montague - 1834 (My 2nd great grandmother)
10. Alfred Henry Montague - 1842
11.  Elizabeth Jane  (no birth year - probably a double up of #2)

It appears most children were born around Marylebone, Middlesex.
Thank you in advance!

England / looking for apprenticeship records for Cecil Montague Bennett
« on: Tuesday 25 September 18 08:36 BST (UK)  »
Hi, I am trying to find any apprenticeship records for Cecil Montague Bennett, born 1893 in Thaxted, Essex - he was a mechanic / mechanical engineer.  His parents were William Bennett and Fanny (Ratcliff).  He served in the Army 1914 - 1920 as an ambulance driver, which I am guessing meant that he was also responsible for maintaining the vehicles.

Thanks, Wendy

Handwriting Deciphering & Recognition / handwriting to be deciphered please
« on: Monday 30 April 18 08:16 BST (UK)  »
Hi, I am wanting to check what this handwriting says.  It is the occupation from a census document and it looks to me like "craps dealer".  Does that sound right?

Thank you
Wendy
