Hi Folks,
Just a warning to keep an eye on your online finances. GenesReunited set up an annual subscription for me while I was asleep and took out 17 pounds. This was through PayPal!

I'm trying to get it sorted out but felt everyone with an account should ber warned.

The Common Room / Insights into an Era
« on: Sunday 30 September 18 04:37 BST (UK)  »
One of the things that fascinates me are the little extra things recorded in the parish registers. I really wish there was a place to collect these somewhere  e.g.

Anyone else found little notes like this? " A Mother and a Childe (unknown) found dead upon the Heath were buried January the 21."

Denbighshire / Hugh Roberts and Sinah - where, when (or even did) they marry?
« on: Saturday 08 September 18 06:48 BST (UK)  »
Hi Folks,
I got some help some months ago with the name of Richard Roberts's mother - Sinah.
http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php?topic=794892.msg6515102#msg6515102

Baptism details (from image) -
Name:   Richard Roberts
Event Type:   Baptism
Event Date:   12 Oct 1751
Event Place:   Llangollen, Denbighshire, Wales
Birth:   1 Oct 1751
Of: Crogen-iddon, Llangollen
Father   Hugh Roberts
Mother   Sinah

I cannot find the marriage of Hugh and Sinah.
Can anyone else?

I was also looking for Richard Roberts marriage and the only likely one I found says his mother was Margaret. I wish I knew which parish "of this parish" was so I could perhaps rule it out.

Staffordshire / Where were John and Sarah Holme after 1861?
« on: Monday 03 September 18 08:51 BST (UK)  »
I've been puzzling over this one for a while.
John Hulme (sometimes called Holme) married Sarah Challenor 18/4/1847 in Liverpool.
He was from Leek, Staffordshire. She was from Wrexham, Denbighshire.
In the 1861 Census, they appeared at 45 Gomer Street, Liverpool (as Holme). They had 3 daughters Emma, Constance (my great grandmother) and Catherine Elizabeth.

Children of John Hulme (labourer) & Sarah, baptised at Gresford, Denbigh:
Emma, 10 Sep 1848 (abode Gwersyllt)
Constance, 6 May 1850 (abode Gwersyllt)
Catharine Elizabeth, 4 April 1852 (abode New Inn)

John Hulme is mentioned at his daughter's marriage
Marriage, Wrexham Parish Church, 7 October 1871
Andrew Gwynne (full age) boiler maker of South Sea.  Father: Andrew Gwynne, shoe maker.
Catherine Elizabeth Hulme (minor) of South Sea.  Father: John Hulme, joiner.
Witnesses: Edward George & Constance Sarah George (my great grandparents)

All wonderful but where did John & Sarah go? I can't find them in any census from 1871 on. There are other couples with the same name but the details - children, occupation, birthplaces etc don't fit.

Any ideas?

PS I've already had help months ago with this one when I had the wrong Hulme but now I've returned to this part of the family tree, I'm stuck again.

PPS Please note I live in Australia so my responses to any questions may be delayed.

Yorkshire (West Riding) / Looking for Frederick Taylor and Alberta Wilhemina
« on: Monday 21 May 18 08:45 BST (UK)  »
Hi Folks,
I've tried every way my limited experience suggested but I cannot any information about my husband's 2G grandparents Frederick Taylor and Alberta Wilhemina except for the birth of their daughter Alberta Wilhelmina in 1876  and the births of two older siblings Frederick Nicholas Lawrence Taylor (1870) and Mary (1871) all 3 in South Africa. Frederick Taylor was recorded as a farmer in the first two and as Market Master for Minnie.

I got no luck looking for the marriage of Frederick Taylor and Alberta Wilhemina on the South Africa Forum so I thought I'd try Yorkshire where Alberta Wilhemina Taylor and Frederick James Allen gave birth to a daughter (Rose Lily Allen) born 1911 in Wakefield, Yorks.

I cannot find when my husband's Grandparents (Frederick James Allen and Minnie) returned to the UK. I wondered whether her parents came with her - again, I can't find them.

Can anyone help me find more about these people?

First record mentioned -
"South Africa, Church of the Province of South Africa, Parish Registers, 1801-2004," database with images, FamilySearch (https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:KYJZ-6TH : 6 August 2017), Alberta Wilhelmina Taylor in entry for Alberta Wilhelmina Taylor, 10 Dec 1876; citing Baptism, Cape of Good Hope, South Africa, p. 17, William Cullen Library, Wits University, Johannesburg.

Hi Folks,
I'm stumped. I've tried every way my limited experience suggested but I cannot find the marriage of my husband's 2G grandparents Frederick Taylor and Alberta Wilhemina. Their daughter's 1876 birth (Alberta Wilhelmina - she was known as Minnie) is easy to find online as is the births of two older siblings Frederick Nicholas Lawrence Taylor (1870) and Mary (1871). Frederick Taylor was recorded as a farmer in those two and as Market Master for Minnie. Nor can I find when my husband's Grandparents (Frederick James Allen and Minnie) returned to the UK. Perhaps her parents came with her - again, I can't find them.

Can anyone help me find more about these people?
