Other Countries / death India
« on: Sunday 14 May 23 09:39 BST (UK)  »
Hello all,
I am at a brick wall with a great x 2 uncle.
William Henry Brown was born on 22nd Dec 1868 in Paddington, Middx.
I believe he enlisted in the army prior to the 1st world war but died in India possibly Rank Sergeant Major.
His wife also died in India and they had one daughter called May Alicia Brown born in 1893.
May was shipped to England after her parent's death to live with her grandmother in Marylebone, Middx.
May sadly could not remember her mother's name so her family only have information on May after she was shipped home to England.
I can't find any information On William Henry Brown whilst serving in India. I have an extensive list of possible marriages in London but have not sent off for any as of yet, taking into account that William and his bride may have married in India.
This is my brick wall folks, any help or ideas appreciated.

The Common Room / Strange Christian name
« on: Friday 21 October 22 15:38 BST (UK)  »
I have a 3x greatgrandfather and he is named
Colextor/Colexter Brown and 1845 Marylebone/,Paddington.
His mother surname is
Carnzer/Caranzu/karnser.It is spelt many different ways depending who wrote it down, obviously how it has been interpreted over the years. I can go back to the 1600s on records for this name. My point is the first name Colextor/ter, either Spanish or possibly Portuguese taking into account the surname as well. No one in my family knows where this Christian name came from.

Any help greatly appreciated

Kind regards

Cork / Our Elizabeth
« on: Wednesday 21 September 22 11:20 BST (UK)  »
I haven't been on here for such a long time, so here goes.
I am trying to find any information on an Elizabeth Cronin abt 1810 probably from Co Cork. I believe she was in London, Southwark which used to be part of Surrey. She is living with Jeremiah Harrington and they have two daughters Mary and Margret 1835 and 1837, and my line Jeremiah was born in 1840 the same year his father Jeremiah Harrington dies in1840 in Southwark, he is buried in st saviors churchyard C of E. I cannot find a marriage for Eliza and Jeremiah, so I am assuming they may not have been married if he was a protestant. I know Harrington is a Catholic name but it is also an English protestant name.
Elizabeth gets married in 1843 to George Plunket in a catholic Belgium chapel and here she states she is a spinster, not a widow?. She has one daughter with George before he dies two years later.
By 1851 she is living with Michael O'Connor and is down as his wife and with them are my GRT x 2 grandfather Jeremiah Harrington and his sister Sarah Plunkett.
Elizabeth isn't with Michael for long and moves into Marylebone.
I have various censuses after 1851 with Elizabeth she is on her own.

I am thinking, 1, she wasn't married to Jeremiah Harrington
                     2, she wasn't married to Michael O'Connor

I am sure whatever she did was just to survive, but I lost as she was in the UK in the early 1830s and I am lost to her birth, I do know her father was John Cronin.
Any Cronin families out there who have maybe lost my Elizabeth.
 :) :D ;D ???

Quaker Family History / trying to find the birth of an Abraham cousin
« on: Saturday 03 April 21 12:22 BST (UK)  »
Hi all,
I am trying to find the birth of an Abraham cousin, although surname spelling may be slightly different. Born 1711  but died and buried in Yorkshire. Abraham may have a brother Issac. The only entry although give birth in 1711 and gives his death date, there doesn't appear to be any birth records, was this normal for Quakers.
would really appreciate some kind person's knowledge on this subject, please.

The Common Room / Illegitimate children
« on: Saturday 16 May 20 15:54 BST (UK)  »
HI all,
Can I ask if a child was born in Bath Gloucester in 1835 and another in st James Bristol in 1837, and both were born before their parents married in 1838 in Wantage Berks, would their baptisms have been recorded illegitimate?. I do have their bapts but I always thought it would say illegitimate.

Their father would have been in his 40s and was a widower, their mother was at the most 20.

 Thanks

Surrey / baptisms
« on: Tuesday 03 September 19 21:45 BST (UK)  »
Can I ask, please
I am looking for any catholic churches in Southwark
well, I am assuming the baptisms were in the Southwark area as the Harrington family were living in white hind alley in the 1830s to 1842.

Any thoughts
