Hi All,

This is an old parish record from Perth, Scotland 1799, showing the marriage between William Spence and Christian Gray.

Would anyone be able to tell me what is written after what I assume says 'soldier in the third [batallion] of....' ??

Thank you!

« on: Sunday 05 August 18 12:22 BST (UK)  »
Hi,
I'm looking for information on Jane Wride's (nee Spence) parents, JAMES SPENCE & JANE CHRISTIE. Jane Wride (nee Spence) was born abt 1869 in Glasgow and married George Wride in 1889 in Brisbane, Qld, Australia. I'm trying to work out when they immigrated and who her grandparents are as I keep getting conflicting results.

Thanks in advance :)

Australia / What did the title Esquire denote in 1850s NSW?
« on: Wednesday 01 August 18 16:50 BST (UK)  »
In 1850s NSW, what sort of social ranking or occupation did one need to be titled an Esquire?
Curious as one of my ancestors was John Jay, Esq. in a marriage notice.

Thanks :)

Hi All,
I recently uploaded my LivingDNA data to GEDmatch and for the most part, the results matched up but Native American/Amerindian and Siberian have been showing up in a few of the options.

My father is European (UK & Irish heritage) and mother is Thai & Chinese (SE Asian, Chinese & some Indian heritage). I don't have any American ancestors that I know of, is it possible some of my Asian heritage is being placed into American & Siberian?

Thanks :)

Hi all,
Can anyone help decipher what is written here? This is from the the Cashel and Emly parish book, Tipperary Town.

This is the marriage between Martin Bourke/Burke & Mary Lynch in April 1870. Not sure what the word next to her name is and can't read anything down the bottom. I only got "married by...?" & "Daniel Lynch? & Catherine...?"

Any help would be appreciated, thanks!

Tipperary / Bourkes/Burkes
« on: Tuesday 24 April 18 13:01 BST (UK)  »
Hi all,

I'm looking for Bourke/Burke ancestors from Tipperary.

My 3rd great grandfather Martin Bourke was born in Tipperary around 1844 and came to Australia around 1877. He married Mary Lynch at age 25 in Tipperary (according to his death cert) so around 1869.

His parents are listed as Thomas Bourke and Winifred Hogan.

I'm looking for birth and marriage records (or any other records) for all of the above, don't know which parish though. Any help would be appreciated. :)

Australia / Commercial Travellers & Guns in the 1920s
« on: Tuesday 24 April 18 12:02 BST (UK)  »
Hi all,

I'm currently researching my ancestor Martin William Bourke (b.1885)

He was a commercial traveller from Sydney, NSW in 1920s. I understand they were 'on the road salesmen' but is there any way I can find out who he worked for and where he went? Would really appreciate some suggestions for where to search.

Second question is, how common was it for blokes to have guns back in 1920s Sydney? Curious to know because Martin committed suicide using a revolver.
