« on: Wednesday 26 June 19 01:44 BST (UK)  »
Hi I am trying to find the details for a Peter Robertson also know as David.
I have his birth abt 1838, Stirlingshire, Scotland, his parents were Alex and Elizth.
He was a coach painter
He married in Melbourne Australia in 1861 and died in 1913 in Melbourne.
I wondering if someone could find a birth for him, and how he ended up in Australia.
I cannot find any details of a marriage in Australia in 1861 although states this on his son's birth cert.

Australia / Parents of Isabella Robertson
« on: Thursday 20 June 19 03:36 BST (UK)  »
Hi, I am wondering if anyone can help me if I have the correct parents for Isabella Robertson?

I have the birth certificate for John Allen Pinchen, listed parents were John Thomas and Isabella, her father was stated as Peter Robertson, no mother listed.

I know that she married John Thomas Pinchen 1884 in Melbourne Vic.
Isabella died age 38 in 1902, Footscray, Father Peter Robertson,  Mother Hannah Moylan.
I have found a child Edith Isabella born 1884 to John Thomas and Isabella Pinchen.

I cannot find any information on Peter Robertson or Hannah Moylan, I don't know if or where they were married?
Hoping for some information,  thanking you

Derbyshire Lookup Requests / William Smith
« on: Tuesday 21 May 19 03:43 BST (UK)  »
Hi wondering if anyone could help?
I know this is a stupid name to be researching, but I am trying to find an ancestor of mine named William Smith.
I have whittled it down to 2 possibilities.
One was convicted at Worcester assizes the other at Derby assizes.
I am trying to find out information for the William convicted at the Derby assizes, I only have scarce details here in Australia.
I have information states he was convicted in 1801, sentence life, transported on the Perseus, left Spithead February 1802.
The problem I have is that both the Williams, (Worcester and Derby convictions ) were transported on the Perseus, for the same date.
There are many different dates for his age at conviction ranging from 1751 to 1792.
I thought if I could get the Derby conviction William's details for eg. his date of birth, crime, birthplace I may be able to verify which is the correct one.
Thanking you

Australia / Joseph Lewis
« on: Wednesday 27 March 19 05:43 GMT (UK)  »
Wondering if anyone can help me with research on a Joseph Lewis.
I have a few details on him,  but cannot verify who his parents are?
As far as I can tell there is no birth cert for him?

Following are the details I have

Headstone Transcription
Joseph Lewis
age 71
born 1851
death 1922
Sydney, Rookwood
insc. Our Father, Anglican.

Death Cert.
Joseph Lewis
Died, 1922, Redfern, NSW
age 71
occupation, farmer
Father, Joseph Lewis
Mother, Sarah Unknown

Marriage Cert.
Joseph Lewis Jun. to Elizabeth Hart
Date 1875
Fitzgerald's Valley,  NSW.
Occupation,  Settler

He is listed on Joseph Lewis sen. D.C. I am assuming that this Joseph senior is his father.
Joseph senior died, 1889, Fitzgerald's Valley, age 57, spouse Jane Noble.

Children of marriage on Joseph seniors D.C. are listed, the first child is a Joseph, age 38. which also would confirm a birth date of 1851.

Joseph senior and Jane Noble married in 1853, so clearly he is not the child of Jane Lewis, nee Noble,  Jane did not arrive in Sydney until 1852.

My thoughts are that Joseph senior had this child with a Sarah Unknown? and he was later raised by Jane and Joseph Lewis?  What do you think?
I would love to know who is and what happened to this Sarah Unknown?
Any help would be much appreciated.

Australia / Sarah Smith
« on: Friday 21 December 18 06:31 GMT (UK)  »
Hi, I am wondering if anyone could help?
I am searching for an ancestor, what a wonderful name to be searching.
She was convicted at The Old Bailey on the 2/12/1812, and transported on the Broxbornebury arriving Australia 1814.
I am terribly confused, trying  to confirm that she was on the Brox.
I have some research stating that a Sarah Blades came on this vessel arrival 1814,  she came free and apparently married a George Smith in Sydney in 1818 I think?
I am wondering if there was a Sarah Blades and a Sarah Smith on this voyage?  I have not been able to find where Sarah Smith was between 1812 (her conviction)  and 1814 (her arrival in Sydney).
Hoping someone can help with this?  I know it's a big search area with such a common name.
Cheers

Technical Help / Problems with Family Search.
« on: Sunday 01 July 18 03:18 BST (UK)  »
Hi,  I am having a problem with Family Search.  from their search page tried to search records,  I put in the deceased ancestors name, next tab down search with a life event, the birth tab is greyed out,  I can put in a place and a date,  none of the other tabs work although they are highlighted?  same as for all the other tabs, just does nothing at all??
I left them a message a few days ago no response yet.
Not sure if it is my computer settings that could be causing the problem?  I have never had any problems before though so don't know why it should be causing me grief now.
I have cleaned my cookies.
Thanks for any ideas

The Common Room / Looking for a John and Martha Noble
« on: Thursday 31 May 18 08:26 BST (UK)  »
Hi to everyone,
I am still chasing the parents of a Jane Noble born Dublin, immigrated to Australia in 1852 on the David Mciver,  which states that both parents John and Martha are deceased.

I have just come across a newspaper article from the Ulster Gazette dated 16/3/1850.

The heading is 'Momikry at caledon'  I have no idea what that means? maybe someone can explain?
it states, along with a few other names, that a John and Martha Noble were convicted of stealing poultry and sentenced to 10years transportation.

it probably is nothing to do with the John and Martha I am looking for,  these two could be brother and sister? but chasing any reason that she had lost both parents by 1851.

Looking for any ideas on this article?  trouble is I think it mentions at Armagh which is a long way from Dublin. Thanking you

The Common Room / Charles Lewis
« on: Sunday 27 May 18 07:10 BST (UK)  »
Hello everyone,
I am wondering if anyone has any knowledge of a Charles Lewis who is my gg grandfather.
I have some information, but it is all circumstantial.
Charles was born in London abt 1798 he was a convict sentenced to transportation to Australia.
There are a few different records mentioning this,  I think he came on the Neptune but I am not sure if it was the 1818 or 1820 voyage?
I have found a cert. of freedom states he was on the 1820 voyage and mentions he was blind in the right eye,  in the surgeons journal for the 1820 voyage it mentions a Charles Lewis that suffered terrible pain because of an eye infection and noted that his right eye cornea had ruptured, so this Charles Lewis certainly sounds like he was on the 1820 voyage.
A lot of research states he was on the 1818 voyage and that he was a baker?  so I am totally confused which voyage it was,  there is a plaque erected near Bathurst in Australia by the Lewis family which states the 1818 voyage.
I have not yet been able to find the conviction in 1817.
He did marry a Mary Anne Smith in Australia in May, 1830.
Hoping some of you wonderful people maybe able to help me?
