United States of America / Researching James McKnight 1771 Pennsylvania USA
« on: Friday 18 June 21 07:43 BST (UK)  »
I am researching the above James McKnight who died between 21st Jan 1771 when his last will was made and 4th Feb 1771, when the will was proven. James described himself of Menallen in York County in Pennsylvania (now Adams). The will mentions two daughters, one Martha McKnight and the other Mary McKnight. It also mentions that Martha McKnight married a Simon McGrew and Mary McKnight married a Joseph Brouster in May 1762 in Lancaster County. I have York County Orphans Court records dated 1789, listing the children from both marriages, so assume that both men had died by this year.

I have tried to find BMD information on James but so far nothing. Can somebody try to find BMD information on this gentleman for me?

Hampshire & Isle of Wight / Charles William Lock(e)
« on: Monday 09 March 20 17:46 GMT (UK)  »
I am trying to trace a paternal line and have hit a stumbling block. I know that Charles William married a May Ethel Onslow 1882-1967 and that they had a child George William on 25th March 1911 in Bournemouth Hampshire. A BMD for Charles would be very helpful and hopefully enable me to proceed

London and Middlesex / A brickwall tracing George William Hawkins
« on: Friday 14 February 20 02:51 GMT (UK)  »
G'day folks.
I am trying to trace a George William Hawkins. I have adoption paperwork for his son that puts George as 31 in 1951 so about 1920 birth.

I know that he was living at 134b Evelyn Street Deptford London SE8 1948 to 1951/2 and maybe longer. There he had a Gladys Hawkins although they were unlikely married and a son Victor Ross Hawkins (later adopted). Gladys was the birth mother. It seems that George also had close family close by Evelyn Street

I have indications that this couple lived together in Minet Road Lambeth for a while where Victor was born.

Apart from this I have no more information but would like to know who George was, BMD's, anything that might flesh him out. Information on the close relatives would be a bonus

The above is verbal information passed down through family

Other Countries / Argentina; Passenger lists for vessels leaving Scotland 1825'ish
« on: Sunday 29 September 19 21:28 BST (UK)  »
I am researching the family of John Tweedie 1775-1862, born in Biggar and buried in Buenos Aires. I have found one record that says John and wife took most of their children to Buenos Aires, leaving Leith to arrive BA late 1825 on a vessel called the "Symmetry". The record lists both parents and three of the six children. A footnote on the list concedes that the family might have left on an earlier vessel and already in BA at the time of Symmetry's arrival. Yet Argentine records do not show any arrivals for this family.
I have hit a shuddering halt in this research and would like to learn which children travelled with the Tweedie parents, departure and arrival.
Here is the link to the record "http://www.greywall.demon.co.uk/genealogy/dodd.html"

I am looking for the birth/ baptism records of a family member, born I calculate 1811 +/- 3 years. The family were living in Castlehill Ayr at the time. The siblings born prior and after were baptised Ayr and Straighton. Sadly The Scots records and UK records in Kew are no help since central records date back to 1855 only. The "Auld Kirk of Ayr' figures strongly with this family.

Ayrshire / John Tweedie (1775-1862) & family
« on: Tuesday 10 September 19 01:21 BST (UK)  »
Can anybody shed light on when John Tweedie (Botanist), his wife Janet and his family members actually left Scotland for Buenos Aires, Argentina? Vessel and names of who accompanied him would be very helpful. I believe one son (William King Tweedie) was left behind so it should be parents, five daughters and one son
The Rev. Dodds list says They all sailed on the Symmetry, departing Leith to arrive late 1825 yet Argentine arivals does not list them on that vessel. A footnote on Dodds list admits they might have arrived on an earlier vessel. The pax list for the two earlier vessels that year, Scotland to BA, does not show them either.

Could somebody please translate this will into understandable English? It is a cropped copy of a screenshot and hopefully does not infringe copyright. I need to make two topics because of size restrictions.

Canada / William Henry Sommers or Summers
« on: Monday 12 August 19 04:49 BST (UK)  »
William Henry Sommers/ Summers was born to William Summers and his wife Martha nee Brouster on the 25th Oct 1804. He was baptised in St Andrews church in Quebec City 14th Feb 1805. This is all I know about William the son and would like to trace what happened after this period, his life and possible descendents. The only other reference to William the son is a court document from Poole UK, dated 22nd June 1825, in which Grandmother Mary Summers is given guardianship of William and his three siblings, the latter all born in Poole 1815 through 1820.
Any help or guidance would be appreciated. I have hit a brick wall on this
