World War Two / Advice on tracing grandfathers military
« on: Friday 08 June 18 20:00 BST (UK)  »
Hello

I have been trying to find out what role my grandad played during his time in the military in WW2. In particular what happened to his regiment during D-Day.

I cannot find anything about him on any of the genealogy sites.

I know very little about him just that he served with the royal engineers during WW2.

His name was Ronald N Richardson born in 1918 in Greenock Scotland.

Would be have been in a Scottish regiment?

Any advice would be much appreciated.

Ireland / Query about wedding record
« on: Sunday 03 June 18 08:04 BST (UK)  »
Hello

I have been trying to trace a wedding record however had no luck until I found one which matched a lot of elements however the name was not as expected.

I am looking for the record of Patrick Markey and Margaret Mitchell in/around 1869 in Dublin.

I have baptism records with these two listed as mother and father of all their children.

A possible father of Margaret is a Henry Mitchell-62nd regiment.
And a possible sister Mary Anne Mitchell.

Patrick was a painter by trade.

I couldn’t find any record for a Patrick Markey and Margaret Mitchell but did find one for a Patrick Markey and Margaret Curtis in 1869 Dublin. The weird thing is on the record her father is Henry if the 62nd regiment, Patrick is a painter and her witness is Mary Anne Mitchell.

Is this too many similarities to be coincidence? Is anyone experienced enough to have theory on if this is the Margaret I and tracing why her name would be Curtis on the marriage and Mitchell on all her children’s baptisms?

Many thanks Kate

Ireland / Advice/help Markey-Dublin
« on: Friday 01 June 18 08:31 BST (UK)  »
Hello
I am trying to trace my grandmothers ancestors however am really struggling finding any records which could trace her family.
I think I am struggling as I know little about her and have no living relatives to help as well as finding Irish records a little more difficult to find.

She was born Mary Margaret Markey 1895 Dublin Ireland.

She married Thomas Nicholson in 1920 Dublin however i I Niall this couldn’t find a marriage record but recently found One where she may be recorded as “Maud” on the record.

She came to England in either the 1940/1950 and died in Chester in 1966.

She was known as Margaret and some of her family emigrated to South Africa.

When researching I have looked for census records however there are some very similar names and dates and I am unsure if it is her. (Mary Margaret and margaret Mary).

I do have a marriage index entry And a possible birth index entry but I  unsure of how I could trace her mother of father? I cannot find any parish records- she was catholic.

Any advice would be 👍 thanks Kate
