Kerry / Cliffords from Tralee
« on: Wednesday 10 July 13 23:02 BST (UK)  »
I have a gg Aunt (Mary Ann Clifford) that came to England with her parents and siblings about 1840. She gives her place of birth as Tralee, Ireland on two London census (1861 and 1891).
She was born about 1835/36, however I have not been able to locate her in any of the Irish online documents.
I have her marrying a Dennis Donegan in London 12 Sept 1858. Sometime around 1863 her and her husband go to America. They return to England about 1870 with a son and live in Salford, Manchester.
Any help in establishing her actual date of birth and birth place as well as her parents would be extremely helpful.

Kerry / Kerry Place Name - Croyle
« on: Monday 07 April 08 20:46 BST (UK)  »
Hi,

I am looking for the origins of the place name Croyle in Kerry, which I believe was in or around Tralee. It apparently does not exist anymore.
My 2 x great aunt has put Croyle as her birth place in the England 1871 Census. I have not been able to find Croyle on any maps or web sites or search engines. I have been told it  may have been written down incorrectly or phonetically by the enumerator at the time, if so that is going to be a big hinderence in finding the place. If anyone has any idea as to where this place is located it would give me a valuable starting point to trace my Irish ancestry.

Kerry / Cliffords with Upholsterers background
« on: Wednesday 15 February 06 17:12 GMT (UK)  »
Hi everyone,

I am looking for my Irish ancestrors birth place. My great, great grand father was Patrick John Clifford (b1807) who married a Mary Unknown (b 1806). I am lead to believe that he could have been from either Kerry (Tralee) or Cork. Large geographical area but is the best I can narrow it down to. He was an upholsterer by trade.
I can find reference to three children Amy (b 1830), John Charles (b1834) and  Mary Ann (b 1835). They all seem to have left for England (London) in the late 1840's as they appear in the London Census of 1851. John Charles was also an Upholsterer and in latter years an antiques dealer in the Euston Road, london. He also joined Sir Henry Iriving at the Lyceum Theatre in London and played several roles in Irving's Shakesperian plays.
I am really stuck with the origins of Patrick John Clifford and Mary Unknown.
Anyone think they have a connection to these cliffords????
Please let me know
Regards
Stuart
