I wonder if anyone can assist. I am on the National Records of Scotland researching a criminal ancestor. I see the result, but at the very bottom of the information there is a link to a reference NA4265 Alloa Stirlingshire
I click the link and it leads nowhere. I do have all the papers relating to the criminal case though I want to know what the significance is of the associated places references.
Incidentally, the accused William Kerr had absconded before the trial. Any advice or info please. I have pasted the record info below.
Many thanks

Dumfriesshire / Wamphray, Walter Kerr and Agnes Gibson
« on: Friday 03 January 14 08:58 GMT (UK)  »
I am looking for any information on Walter Kerr and Agnes Gibson. They had children born in Wamphray, according to the children's census information. John Kerr was born in c1791, James Kerr in c1797, Jean Kerr c1797, also William, birthdate unknown and possibly a Janet and Mary. Walter is described as a deceased miller on John Kerr's death certificate and mother was detailed as Agnes Gibson, also deceased. I believe the Gibson family worked at the Wamphray Mill in the 1700s. I cannot find any other info on Walter and Agnes. Though the census details that their children were born at Wamphray. (John Kerr married Janet Proudfoot and lived at Kirkpatrick Juxta in the 1820s). John, James, Janet and Jean all ended up in Moffat but no Walter or Agnes, so they had probably died before the 1841 census. Any help or advice to lead me to more information would be great. I have hunted Scotland's People and am now at a brick wall.

Dumfriesshire / Jessie Hannah and Agnes Kerr of Moffat
« on: Monday 02 December 13 14:34 GMT (UK)  »
I am trying to trace Jessie Hannah born Moffat c 1833 and Agnes Kerr born Moffat c 1837. Both appear on 1841 and 1851 census living in Moffat with James Kerr and are both described as niece. Jessie was the informant on the the death certificate of Janet Kerr d1856 and is described as her grandchild, though Janet was not married. I believe Janet was James sister. In 1851 the are living at the Star Inn ( now the Star Hotel). In 1841 Jessie is Janet Hannel, mis-transcribed, but Janet may be her true name and Jessie became her known name.
I have hunted through Scotland's People and can find no trace of either of these girls after the 1851 census for Agnes and the 1856 informant for Jessie.
Can anyone help or advise me at all?

Sussex / Harris of Ninfield and Mountfield
« on: Tuesday 19 February 13 12:43 GMT (UK)  »
Can anyone advise on further information for Samuel Harris b Ninfield 1795. He had a sister called Mary also born Ninfield c1801. She lived with her brother from 1851 and was detailed on census as imbecile / lunatic. Samuel died in 1877 and Mary died 1891. She is buried at St John The Baptist Netherfield. Though I do not have a M I. I cannot find a birth history for Samuel, so any advice would be great. Samuel had a son Elijah, tenant farmer at Rats Farm Mountfield. Samuel was a woodreve from the 1851 census onwards. His marriage to Fanny Weeks in 1816 Herstmonceux does not detatil parents either. Can anyone help? Thanks

Sussex / Harris / Death Record
« on: Saturday 09 October 10 12:07 BST (UK)  »
Can anyone help?

I am searching for a death record for Samuel Harris.

He was born 1795c Ninfield, Sussex ( no birth or baptism confirmation of this )

Married Fanny Weeks 29/12/1816 at Herstmonceux

Appears on 1841 to 1871 census. Fanny died in 1870, and in 1871 Samuel is living with his sister Mary. Mary is then listed living with her niece in 1881.

Could it be that he had a different first name, used at his baptism and death?

Many Thanks

Sally

Hi,
Can anyone point me in the right direction? I have discovered one of my relatives was an inmate in a HM prison in Kent in 1911. His name was John Milton Kerr. He was originally a solicitor from Halifax. The census gives his occupation as soliciter, struck off. On the 1901 census John and his brother Robert had their own Solicitors business.
What I would like to find out is why he was in prison. Where could I find this info out?
