The Common Room / No Will available with Probate Record
« on: Saturday 19 August 23 13:51 BST (UK)  »
Hi,

I have looked up the Probate for my Grandfather who died in 1958.  I have found the Probate Record in the registry but there is no Will with it.  All the other people I have looked up I have managed to get a copy of a Will also.  Is this usual not to have a Will with the Probate Record?

Thank you

Cathy

The Lighter Side / Electoral Rolls and Christenings.
« on: Sunday 03 July 22 17:45 BST (UK)  »
Hi,

I am helping an elderly gentleman try to find out more about his mother.  He discovered in his 80s that the woman he thought was his Aunt was in fact his mother.  I have been able to find her on the 1939 register and in her early life, but would like to try to find her after his birth in 1940.  Is it possible to access electoral rolls for that time period in the Brighton area online?

If this gentleman was Christened, as the parents were not married, would the father's name be recorded in Church records?

Any help would be much appreciated.

Thank you.

The Lighter Side / Family Search Parish Records.
« on: Saturday 19 March 22 15:19 GMT (UK)  »
Hi,

It is some little time ago now that I used the Family Search Records and having recently logged on found everything completely changed.  I remember there used to be church records online where you could search through the registers church by church but I cannot remember what it was called.  Does anyone know if this is still available please?

Thank you

Armed Forces / Service and Medal Records for Stretcher Bearers WW1 COMPLETED
« on: Wednesday 14 August 19 13:20 BST (UK)  »
Hello,

A friend of mine has asked me if I can trace her Grandfather's service and medal records in WW1.  He was a stretcher bearer and she thinks he was in the South Staffs Regiment or attached to that regiment.  I have searched on one of the sites and cannot find a medal record or service record (I know that the service record could have been destroyed as being part of the burnt papers) but as he does have medals, which she has, I cannot find a medal record which are usually held at Kew.  Did stretcher bearers have service records? Why can I not find his Medal Record?

Any help would be much appreciated.

Thanks

Staffordshire / King Street, Littleworth Hednesford Photographs
« on: Friday 25 January 19 13:13 GMT (UK)  »
Hi,

This is a bit of a long shot.  I am looking for photographs of Littleworth Farm, King Street, Littleworth Hednesford, which was demolished in the last 60 odd years.  My great grandparents lived there in the early 1900s as great grandfather was the manager of the brickworks there which is now a business park.  I have looked online to see if I can find any but had no luck so far.

Thanks

Cathy

The Lighter Side / How am I related to?
« on: Tuesday 24 April 18 13:34 BST (UK)  »
Eight years ago I was contacted by a distant relation and we have been working on our family tree.  We are having a family party in a couple of weeks to which this relation and his cousin have been invited.  I am not sure how to describe how we are related.  We share the same great, great great Grandfather.  I know there is a chart somewhere on the site which explains all this that was posted some years ago but cannot seem to find it.  Can someone help me please.  Thanks.  Cathy  :)

Technical Help / Printing Family Tree on Excel Speadsheet
« on: Thursday 19 April 18 18:41 BST (UK)  »
Hi,

I have put my family tree on excel and last year managed to save it as a PDF document on A3 and have it printed off at the local printers.  I have now put more names on it, tried the same procedure but cannot get the print to enlarge now without losing part of the tree and it is therefore too small to read when printed out.  I have changed my computer since last year and various parts of the software have changed.  Can anyone advise me please on a way to save to PDF to enable me to print it off.  I should say the machine at the printers does not have a limit for printing width wise so it should be feasible.  Thank you  Cathy  :(

Devon / R. Cundy and Sons, Stoke, Devenport Plymouth
« on: Saturday 12 August 17 12:31 BST (UK)  »
Hi,

I am doing some research on behalf of my cousin into milk delivery firm R. Cundy and Sons, Trafalgar Dairies Stoke, Devenport Plymouth.  I have found an advertisement in the Western Morning News dated 16th June 1941 stating that they have been established for over 100 years.  There are other adverts in the paper over the years looking for employees to join them.

I was wondering if anyone has any local knowledge of this firm, the name of the person running it, where is was situated and when it ceased to trade.

I have done some trawling on the internet but have found very little other than the adverts in the newspaper.

Thank you

Cathy
