Perthshire / Death Record for James BLANCH(E) Time Frame: 1797 to 1799
« on: Sunday 23 September 18 10:52 BST (UK)  »
Hello,

Need assistance with finding the death record for James Blanch(e).  Time frame: 1797-1799.

Can someone provide me some clues/suggestions where to check for his death record?

Here is what I know about James BLANCHE.

James BLANCHE married Nancy Ann BROWN(E) on 12 November 1776 in Saint Mary Parish, Middlesex county, Islington borough.  It was listed he was a member of the parish.

His occupation was a HOSIER and their home was at 417 Strand, 1777 to 1784.

James' wife, Nancy Ann, has a brother, John Browne.  In John Browne's will, dated 8 June 1799, it listed his sister Nancy/Ann Blanche as a widow.  In Nancy Ann's father's will, dated 22 February 1797, Nancy/Ann was not listed as a widow.

In the London Gazette, dated 11 June 1880, there is a legal notice for Frances Swaile Fitzgerald, James and Nancy/Ann's 7th child, and it lists that her parents resided in Perth in Scotland where when Nancy/Ann Blanch became a widow, was living in and sometime before 1807, she resided in Lambeth-walk, Surrey and died in Surrey shortly before November 1827.

Why James and Nancy/Ann moved to Perth - I believe their daughter, Catherine, and Catherine's husband Lieutenant Henry HANSON were stationed in Perth and the Hanson's had twins, Mary and Henry HANSON, born 29 March 1806 and Mary was baptised 16 April 1806;  could not locate a baptism for twin brother, Henry.

At St. Martin-in-the-Fields parish James and Nancy/Ann baptised their children:

1)  Nancy Blanche, born 4 Sep 1777, buried there 16 Oct 1777

2)  James Blanche, born 4 Sep 1778 (yes, same day only a year apart);  died before Aug 1838; wife unknown;  daughter Fanny Blanche

3)  Henry Blanche, born 3 Jan 1800; buried there 17 Oct 1780

4)  Catherine Blanche, born 13 Feb 1781, died 16 May 1832; married Henry Hanson and have 11 children

5)  Maria Blanche, born 21 Aug 1783; no additional data

6)  William Henry, born 6 Aug 1785; no additional data

At Saint James Parish, Westminster

7) Frances Swaile Blanche, born 28 Aug 1787; died March 1838; married Thomas Fitzgerald and have 3 children

8 )  John Blanche, born 6 Sep 1789; no addition data

9)  Charles Blanche, born 17 Sep 1782; no additional data

At Saint Dunstan-in-the-East, London

10) Hannah Blanche, born 19 Jun 1794;  Christening 10 September 1800; married William Thomas Woodham and have 3 children.

Hannah's christening listed  Jas and Nancy BLANCH as her parents but Nancy/Ann was a widow in 1799 - would the record indicate the father as deceased?  I have not actually seen the baptism record, just the digital details.

I am a direct line descendant from James Blanch(e) and Nancy/Ann Browne and this is one of my brick walls.

Any assistance on what avenues to review to find James' death details will be greatly appreciated.

Cumberland Lookup Requests / BROWNE Family of Wigton
« on: Saturday 01 September 18 11:14 BST (UK)  »
BROWNE Family of Wigton

Henry BROWNE, born in Wigton 1727, died in Wigton March 1787, married in Wigton on 3 December 1750 to Hannah SWAILE (1721-1797).  Henry and Hannah are reported buried in St. Mary’s Churchyard, Wigton, Cumbria, England.

BROWNE Children:

1.  John BROWNE, Esquire, born 1751-?, Lt. Colonel East India Company. Never married.  No Will found.

2.  Nancy Ann BROWNE,  born 4 September 1753 in Saint Marin in the Fields, Westminster, London; died 1827 in Lambeth, Surrey, England.  Nancy married James BLANCH(E) at Saint Mary Church, Islington, London on 12 November 1776.

3.  William BROWNE, Esquire, born 1756 in Wigton, died 16 November 1805, Major East India Company.  His Will is available on-line Prerogative Court of Canterbury Wills.  Never married.

4.  Catherine BROWNE, christening in Wigton 21 February 1759, died East Smithfield, London in 1836.  Catherine married Richard WILSON, on 30 October 1787 at St. Mary’s Whitechapel, Middlesex, England.

5.  Frances Swaile BROWNE, born in Wigton on 15 April 1764; died March 1838 in Lewisham, Kent, England.  Frances married in Wigton to John WITTED on 14 September 1784.

William BROWNE’s Will listed John BROWNE, his brother, as one of his executors.  John BROWNE was at the “proving of the Will” on 21 January 1806, thus, references to John of this BROWNE family death in 1799 are not correct.

I could not find John BROWNE’s Will in the Prerogative Court of Canterbury Wills, but I do not have a death date to search and I am a novice researching UK records, and could have missed it.

William BROWNE, along with his parents and brother, John BROWNE, were reported buried in St. Mary’s Churchyard, Wigton.

Can anyone in this forum help me confirm/verify that members of this BROWNE family are indeed interned at St. Mary’s Courtyard and hopefully gain additional information on John BROWNE’s death?

I am a direct line descendant via Nancy Ann BROWNE.

Thank you for your time and assistance with this inquiry!

Family History Beginners Board / Hanson Family - Scotland and/or England
« on: Sunday 26 August 18 00:53 BST (UK)  »
Trying to find the parents of Henry HANSON.  Henry Hanson, probably born in Scotland 1774 or 1776, was a British Army Lieutenant, who served in the Cape Regiment 1808-1818. Ended his career by retiring as the Assistant Ordnance Barracks Master General, and  stayed in Cape Town. He helped build the first library in Cape Town and served as one of its first librarians, 1821-1822.
Henry died at age 56 in Cape Town, South Africa, on 26 Feb 1830.  Henry  married in the Holy Trinity Church, Whitehaven, Cumbria, England, on 1 Nov 1803 to Catharine BLANCHE.  Catharine was born in 1781 or 1784, died at age 48 in Cape Town, South Africa, on 16 May 1832.  Witness to Henry and Catharine's wedding in Whitehaven was a Maria SCARGILL, nee Hanson.
This particular Maria HANSON, married to James SCARGILL, has their marriage license listing them both of the parish of St Bartholomew, City of London. The two witnesses were William and Margaret HANSON.
I suspect Henry and Maria were siblings and William and Margaret are closely related.
A daughter of Henry and Catharine Hanson, Eliza Anne, married Jan Karel van Haastert in the Dutch East Indies and I am a direct descendant.
I have most, if not all, of the family reconstructed, but records of Europeans in the Dutch East Indies era is now few and far between.  I am hoping I can identify whom are Henry's parents.

Any Help and assistance will be greatly appreciated!
