Im trying again with this which is probably the biggest dead end in my tree. She was my 2nd Great Grandmother and emigrated to Toronto in 1871. Ive attached an excel with what I know about her. What I never found is a birth record or firm details of her father or mother. Any help greatly appreciated

Yorkshire (West Riding) / Ecclesfield and Sheffield Registers
« on: Sunday 08 October 23 08:53 BST (UK)  »
Can anyone shed any light on why some events were registered at Sheffield Parish Church and others at Ecclesfield?
For example marriage of James Holmes and Esther Beard 21 Aug 1786 Sheffield Cathedral.
Birth of first child Elizabeth baptised 8th July 1787, Sheffield parents James and Esther
2nd child Salley 6th July 1788 Ecclesfield James and Esther.

Subsequent children all Ecclesfield.

The Common Room / Find A Grave biographies
« on: Tuesday 19 September 23 08:20 BST (UK)  »
I’m seeing more and more hints on Ancestry from FAG, which is good for information from the headstone. What I also see though are biographies with baptism, marriage and other information.

As I understand these are put together by the person who maintains that memorial.

Inexperienced researchers might then put that info to their tree even though it could be wrong.

I’m surprised Ancestry and FAG allow this. My view is that FAG should limit itself to what it says on the tin, or the grave.

Yorkshire (West Riding) Lookup Requests / Thomas Moorhouse Sheffield area b 1839
« on: Friday 04 August 23 09:24 BST (UK)  »
Trying to pin down the correct GRO record so I can get the digital image to confirm address and mother and father.

I have

1 Baptism in Sheffield 1839 from FindMyPast, George and Mary DOB 29.3.1839
2 What I believe is an incorrect GRO with DOB 30.1. 1839 to Joseph and Mary(Hunter)
3 His second marriage 1882 to Abigail Raynes in Sheffield, father George
4 His first marriage was 1860 to Mary Ann Spencer who subsequently died . I have no cert for that
5 1841 census age 2 in Ecclesfield parents George and Mary
6 1851 census age 12 in Dronfield, Father remarried. Occupations and children match.

Any help in finding the correct GRO appreciated. This is a complicated area for registrations. Sheffield also included Ecclesall Bierlow and this are of North Sheffield at times came under Wortley and Ecclesfield.

Yorkshire (West Riding) Lookup Requests / James Spencer born 1817 Hallam, Sheffield
« on: Tuesday 17 January 23 17:07 GMT (UK)  »
Trying to find a baptism record for him. If I track his ages on census from 1841 to 91 he was born between April 1817 and march 1818. This concurs with his Find A grave record of being 74 on his death 12 Feb 1892. He married Charlotte Bettany at Beauchief near Sheffield 18 Feb 1839, his father was John Spencer. This at the time was in the county of Derbyshire but there are no baptism records that match when Derbyshire is included in the search.

His birth place on census is either Fulwood, Upper Hallam or Hallam, so all South Sheffield.

Any help appreciated

Canada Lookup Request / Philip Holland Burns look up
« on: Wednesday 14 December 22 11:09 GMT (UK)  »
Im researching a Philip Holland Mackmin, possibly born Niagara USA 11 Jan 1923 (no official birth record found. Info from 1930 and 1940 US Federal Census) or possibly born as Philip Holland Burns, same date Montreal Canada.

Most trees have parents as William Wilberforce Mackmin and Ethel Irene Adams but there is a suggestion that he was the son of her sister Florence Evelyn Adams and Charles M Burns. Charles father was Philip Holland Burns and the family lived in Montreal.

Ive been searching for a birth record for Philip Burns Canada 1923 that matches.
