Dublin / Horn Family from Malahide
« on: Saturday 26 February 11 12:16 GMT (UK)  »
I have only just this morning discovered a possible link to this family and as I've never had cause to research Irish records before i thought this would be the best place to start.
I have a Drusilla Horn on the 1841 census in Dorset aged 13, her birthplace is Ireland.  On subsequent census returns she is married to James Smith and her birthplace is sometimes transcribed as Malahill or Malahide.  I have done a lot of googling this morning with no success and wondered if anyone would be able to point me in the right direction as to where to look next for her birth and her parents and further back....do her family originate from there or elsewhere in Ireland?

Any help or advice is greatly appreciated.

Hi, my great Aunt died recently and my Mum has several of her old family photos, we know everyone in them apart from this lady and when asked, my Grandma said "Oh that's Aunt Wilhelmina nobody talked about her" which has left us all intrigued as I have done a lot of research on that side of the family and a Wilhelmina has never turned up so if someone would be able to give me an idea of when it was taken and/or how old she could possibly be I would be most grateful.

Thanks

SBW

I have never added a photo on here so I hope it comes out ok

Suffolk Completed Lookup Requests / Marriage 1808 - Fressingfield - BAXTER/CATCHPOLE
« on: Monday 03 September 07 11:11 BST (UK)  »
I have recently found that my husband's gt gt gt grandmother was Ann Catchpole, she married Charles Sheppard in 1826.

I am interested in her mother - Elizabeth Baxter - Ann's birth is recorded on the IGI as 1805 and only her mother is mentioned - Elizabeth Catchpole - I have subsequently found (what I believe to be) the marriage of Elizabeth to Stephen Baxter.  Elizabeth was born around 1762 so my query is would Elizabeth have been married to a Mr Catchpole and he died before Ann was born which is why he is not mentioned on the birth record, or is Catchpole Elizabeth's maiden name and she didn't marry until into her 40's?

Suffolk / Jonathan SMITH - Beccles area
« on: Saturday 18 August 07 11:23 BST (UK)  »
I have possible details of Jonathan Smith and Mary Butcher marrying in about 1800 ish
but I have a query concerning the birth of Jemima Smith, someone on here kindly looked for me and found that Jemima had her birth recorded as natural daughter of Mary which meant she was illegitimate but on her marriage cert Jemima has said that her father is Jonathan Smith.

Is it possible for someone to see if Jonathan died before Jemima was born (in 1811 in Hulver Street) please.

Thank you

Yorkshire (West Riding) / Buried in Bradford?
« on: Monday 23 July 07 19:44 BST (UK)  »
I am wondering if anyone would mind helping me with the death of my gt gt grandfather - Richard Keightley.

I am in the process of putting a family tree chart together for my Dad's 60th birthday later this year and I'm just filling in the final details.

I have found what I believe to be my gt gt grandfathers death index number but I haven't got the certificate yet.

He died in the Dec. Q. of 1905 in the Bradford district and I would like to know where he was buried as I have had a look round the graveyard in the village in North Lincolnshire where he lived for most of his life and found his wife ( my gt gt grandmother) but I can't find him so I am presuming he must be somewhere in the Bradford district.

If anyone has access to disks or books etc and wouldn't mind having a look for me I would be very grateful.

Thanks,

Sarah

Lincolnshire / 14 children and counting (Surfleet Lincs)
« on: Wednesday 11 July 07 13:51 BST (UK)  »
I am looking for the children of John and Rebecca Brown (nee Walker).

I know of at least 14 who were born between 1875 and 1898 but i would like to know if they had any more between 1898 and 1908 when Rebecca died of cancer.

I am putting a small file/book together about the life of John (my gt gt grandad) for an 80th birthday present for my Grandma next month.

John was born in Luton and Rebecca in Spalding but so far all 14 of their children were born in Surfleet, I don't have access to anything other than Ancestry.co.uk and I've had a look in the IGI and can't see anything useful.  If anyone has access to any other records and wouldn't mind looking for me I would be really grateful.

Thank you,

Sarah

Lincolnshire / Walker and Smith - DEEPING AREA
« on: Monday 09 July 07 21:57 BST (UK)  »
Thanks to all who have helped me no end with my previous thread (Thomas Robinson) I have a couple more queries to help me complete my Grandmas 80th birthday present (next month :o)

I am looking for the birth of George Walker.  He was born around 1811ish and according to census returns he was born in Deeping (possibly Market Deeping) and he was a porter.

He married Ann Smith (born in 1812 in Deeping st. James) and they had 16 children  :o :o.

The first child was born about 1829 (George).  They seemed to live in Spalding for most of their married life.

I have very little info other than the census returns and the birth cert of their daughter Rebecca (my gt gt grandma) in 1854.

If anyone could find a marriage for them I would be very grateful as I'm rapidly running out of time, I also need their parents names but I think that may be impossible in the time frame I have.

Thanks,

Sarah

Lincolnshire / Thomas Robinson-Stainfield nr Lincoln
« on: Saturday 07 July 07 11:26 BST (UK)  »
'm desperately searching for the birth of my gt gt grandfather, Thomas Robinson. He was born in Stainfield near Lincoln and going by the census returns he was born around 1849.

I have eventually found him in the 1851 census (aged 2) with his mother Sarah and 2 siblings, Edwin and Ann (transcribed as Robison)

I have Thomas' marriage cert and his father is named as John Robinson deceased. As there is no father named on the 1851 and 1861 census I presume he died when Thomas was very young as his mother is down as WID.

I cannot find a suitable birth ref for Thomas but I can for Edwin and Ann. I have also found Edwin and Ann on the IGI index but Ann's parents are down as John and Sarah with Edwin's being John and Mary, but as on the 1851 and 1861 census their mother is Sarah I'm presuming she is called Sarah and not Mary. Why would Edwin's mother be down as Mary on the IGI or is it just the usual take the IGI index with a pinch of salt.

The only Thomas Robinson birth at the right time is Thomas Dawber Robinson born in the Caistor reg district (in Lincolnshire). I have found a marriage cert for John Robinson and Sarah Dawber in 1840 or 41 I can't remember the exact year as I type this, and I have a copy of it and it says they were married in Stainfield and as both Edwin and Ann were born in Stainfield and my gt gt grandad has put Stainfield as his place of birth in all the census returns, I thought this Thomas Dawber Robinson must be my gt gt grandfather but he is registered in the wrong place.

To make matters worse I have also been looking for his death reference. I know from my grandma where her grandparents were living as she remembers visiting them and leaving her bike at their house when she went to town on the bus. The only suitable reference I can find is in 1936 but the date has him aged 83/4 meaning he was born in 1852. My grandma remembers her grandma coming to live with her family after her grandad died as her grandma was suffering from senility. I have found a suitable death ref for her grandma in 1937 in the right place and the right age.

Can anyone else spot him or have any suggestions. I need this info for the chart I'm putting together for my Grandmas 80th birthday next month so I'm beginning to get desperate now.
