I have been sent a cd by some family, and on it the file is a FTMB file and also a FTM family file.

I have family tree maker but it tells me that it is not a valid Win.32 application and that my FTM does not recognise/support these files.

HELP please - do I need to upgrade my version of FTM?  (Think its 2005 version).  I have tried various methods of opening it so what else can I try.

Thanks for your help

Shropshire / HOOSON - Shrewsbury area
« on: Tuesday 24 July 07 12:07 BST (UK)  »
Hello Roots

I am looking for ancestor info/descendants/connections etc for the HOOSON family from Shrewsbury 1800's.

I have John Hooson born c1848 Shrewsbury married (1877 Atcham)  to Elizabeth Margaret Lloyd.
Children - John L - c1882
Elizabeth E c1882
Alice J c1887
Alfred J c1889
Florence A c1890
Cecil M c1892
all born Shrewsbury

John (father and son) worked on the railways  - engine driver and fireman.

John L joined the 3rd northumberland fusiliers WW1 (have got his medal card) and remained in the Gateshead area where he married E Welsh.  His family apparently disowned him.

I have tracked John and Elizabeth within the census from 1881 but prior to that I am still looking.

Thanks
Vicky

Hello everyone

I am looking for the family of John Lloyd HOOSON born c1884 in Shropshire ('fraid I don't have any further info on place).

He served in the army.  He met and married Ethel Agnes Welsh and remained in Gateshead.  I am told because of this, his family disowned him.

He remained in Gateshead and had a large family with Ethel (I have childrens details) and he died in the 1960's (mum in laws memory is not so good).

Thanks

Vicky

Hampshire & IOW Lookup Requests / READ family searches
« on: Wednesday 10 January 07 13:02 GMT (UK)  »
Hello fellow hunters!  Hope you all had a good xmas and NY?

I've not really searched in Hants before so I'm not too sure whats available and I don't really have much concrete evidence to go upon but the same place keeps cropping up - Boldre Hants and this brickwall is now driving me nuts.

I have a Charles READ born c1818/21 to George Read (descibed as a "carrier" on on Charles marriage cert in 1842).
Now I am not sure if Rebecca is Charles' sister or mother.
Other possible siblings are Emma and William.

Charles is living in Chichester Sub Deanery around 1841 and gives his place of birth as Sub Deanery but I don't think that is right.  Sorry to be so vague.

Later with his wife and family they move to Portsmouth.

I was wondering if anyone can find anything regarding Charles and George and Rebecca around the Boldre/Lymington areas please?

I have checked in the Chichester areas for any records for Charles and there are none.  George does not seem to appear either, although I have found a Rebecca.

Many thanks (holding breath)

« on: Wednesday 01 November 06 22:10 GMT (UK)  »
I am looking for information or even ancestors or rellies please.

I have a John FORSTER who married Eleanor Jane Ferguson Morpeth area 1913

Their children:

Andrew 1914 Gateshead
Robert 1918 Born Greenwell House Farm Blaydon Burn(Ryton Winlaton)
Elsie
Marge
Peggy (married Bell)

At the time of Roberts birth John is described as Farm Labourer.

Sadly this is all I know about the Forster clan but would love to know more.  I am just tracking down the marriage certificate for John and Eleanor to see if that helps me with the name of Forster.

Am just searching for info for the Ferguson family but not priority at present.

Then we have Ethel Agnes WELSH who married John Hooson Gateshead 1913

Ethels family hail originally from West Rainton (starting with William 1791 and Jane.  Ethels parents were Joseph and Jane A Hutchinson).  Ethel born 1894 Gateshead - brothers - Herbert and Norman.  (Norman married Elizabeth Binding Sunderland 1925)

Ethel and John HOOSONS children:
John L 1915 Gatehead
Thomas H 1917 G'head
Catherine A 1919 G'head
Cecil E 1922 G'head
Robert S 1924 G'head
Ethel 1925 G'head
Joan 1928 Lanchester
Ethel 1930 Lanchester
Margaret R 1931 Lanchester
William  1933 Lanchester

Joan married Robert FORSTER.

Again any and all information much appreciated.

With kind regards and thanks

The Common Room / Who Lived in this House
« on: Thursday 31 August 06 15:55 BST (UK)  »
I'm not to sure where I'd look to find the info that I'm after.

My dad was born at 54 Leigham Court Road Streatham (which is part of Lambeth) in 1925.    (I have recently got his birth cert).

My nan and grand da weren't married, they lived together as a married couple, they were working in Wales and my nan "came away" to have my dad.   What I want to know is who owned the above abode - was it  a relative or a home for unmarried mothers......   Where would I look to find this information please.

My nan gives her name as - Edith Emily Read, taking her "partners" surname, but does not name the father on the certificate.  Why would this be? Is it because they aren't married?

Thanks for the help (in advance)

Vicky

Alderney, Guernsey, Jersey, Sark / Merchant Navy and WW2 Servicemen
« on: Thursday 20 July 06 21:40 BST (UK)  »
A couple of queries here if anyone can help please.

The first is that an ancestor (Edward Ernest Blampied) served in the Merchant Navy between 1882 and 1890, is there any way to trace his service?

Also my grandfather (Adolphe Herpe) served in the Merchant Navy round WW2 time (he was from Guernsey) again where could I go to find information on his service,  I have tried the National Archives but his name does not show up in any records, I suppose it is possible that he served the French MN?

And then onto my great grandfather (Adolphe Herpe born France, lived Guernsey), he definately served with the 18th Regiment of Hussars for France WW1.  He survived but again where would I be able to find any records?

OK so thats 3 queries, but I'm searching to no avail at the moment.  I know y'all too be bright sparks and have many a time come up trumps, so heres handing over to you and hoping you can point me in the right way.

Many thanks

Vicky
