The Common Room / Actham Workhouse Shrewsbury
« on: Saturday 01 December 18 20:30 GMT (UK)  »
I recently posted a request looking for a relative who was born out of wedlock and a reply gave me a connection to a person who may be the one I was looking for.

I sent for the birth certificate and it looks like it was the genuine one as the father wasn't named and the mothers name was correct.

The address where born was 11 Barton St Shrewsbury which when Googled was not found but think it may have been the workhouse would anybody know if it was common practice to send someone to the workhouse to give birth?

Regards
Steve

The Common Room / Looking for a lost relative
« on: Wednesday 21 November 18 17:00 GMT (UK)  »
I appreciate this is a very long shot but I’m trying to find a person from my wife’s family who was born out of wedlock and then ‘given’ away, probably not officially adopted as it was prior to 1926.

The information I have (although not confirmed) is this girl was born around 1916 in Newport in Shropshire to a Lucy Maria Picken and the father was a George Lovett, George was subsequently killed during WW1 in 1918.

Lucy then married George’s brother Frederick in 1919 and went on to have 2 sons one of which was my wife’s Father.

We believe the girl was called Joan and there was some contact with my wife’s father but we don’t know when and all parties who may know are no longer with us.

There is a photo of the girl we found possibly she's around 20 but we don’t know anymore, if anybody recognises her or can suggest anywhere that we could look it would be greatly appreciated.
I have tried searching on the various names Joan Picken, Pickin and Joan Lovett, Lovatt but no luck.

Thanks
Steve

Free Photo Restoration & Date Old Photographs / Photograph of Albert Parkes
« on: Monday 12 November 18 21:14 GMT (UK)  »
Hi this is a photograph of my late Grandfather Albert Parkes 1899-1985

I was wondering if the round mark on his face could be removed?

He's in the uniform of the Notts & Derby regiment and in 1917 was transferred to the Kings Own Royal Lancasters

Many thanks
Steve Parkes
