Australia / George and Chrissie (?Christina) Paterson
« on: Tuesday 18 October 16 19:16 BST (UK)  »
Hi
George Paterson was my husbands uncle, he and his wife emigrated in the 1960s sometime.
We know George died around1980's perhaps. Sometime after that the Christmas cards stopped from Chrissie. the family never knew what happened to her. They were in Western Australia.
So vague, I know -  15 myere st, mt claremont , perth
This is just a long shot to see if anyone knows /has access to any records that might help us find out what happened to Chrissie. we think she moved from that address after she was widowed.
thank you. Any information will be more than we have at the moment!

Renfrewshire / Charles and Jane Fredrick of Greenock found on 1861 census
« on: Thursday 28 January 16 22:27 GMT (UK)  »
Hi
I'm on a high! I've made a minor breakthrough with a branch of my family!! hooray!
needing a bit of help -
The family I have found is this: on 1861 census:
Charles Fredrick head age 47 sugar boiler   place of birth Germany!
Jane wife age 44 Stirlingshire
Catherine dau 25 Greenock
Peter son 21 iron moulder
M? son 19 ?
Henry son 15
Charles son 9
Janet dau 2
Janet Fredrick? mother in law 70 Stirlingshire Polmont

My interest is this:
my late mother in law was named Jeanie Fredrick (and her  surname). Always thought to be  from Germany.
Her father was George Paterson, his brother Walter Paterson married a woman known as Jeanie Fredrick. After many years this is the first time I have found someone with a "sounds -like" name that matches. The age gap between this young Jane/Janet/Jeanie b 17 October 1858 and Walter b 23.4.1877 is a bit weird.
Can anyone help me unscramble this family a bit please?
I'd also love to know more about the German connection.
any offerings would be most welcome.
Thank you in great anticipation!

Dumfriesshire / Miss Jean Jones, Thornhill
« on: Tuesday 07 April 15 08:26 BST (UK)  »
Hi folks
Jean Jones lived in Thornhill - on the main street. My daughter knew her in the 1990's, but lost touch with her. Does anyone remember her please? She would be very old now, but we expect she is no longer alive. She was a very special friend and my daughter would love to hear of anyone who knew her. I can't find her in the local paper obituaries. She was a church goer.
Thank you

Immigrants & Emigrants - General / family from Leicester went to Fiji c 1884
« on: Sunday 13 April 14 16:09 BST (UK)  »
Hi
We know that Henry Stevenson b Hemel Hempstead 1862 and wife Harriet b Leicester 1858 went to Fiji to live and work - they had a grocers shop, i think.
they took their son Andrew Ephraim b1883 Leicester. He returned with them to the UK at some point.
They had a dau Sarah Beatrice b12 March 1885, she dies in Suva 29 dec 1885.
dau Loloma Sarah  b 12 aug 1886, died 7 july 1887 in Leicester.
I'm don't know if Sarah and Loloma were born in Fiji.
After they returned to Leicester, they had 4 more children.
I no longer have ancestry membership. How can I find this family on passenger lists - going out and coming back?
We understand that another family from Leicester went with them.
I can't get my head round why a simple family from Leicester would set off to such a place.
Any help or guidance would be much appreciated.
Henry and Harriet are my great grandparents.
Thank you

Leicestershire / Plunketts a whole family to find!
« on: Monday 12 August 13 19:16 BST (UK)  »
Hi Folks
ages ago I posted looking for Frank Victor and Charlotte Plunkett - born 1804, 98, and 1900, with not much success.
Their father was Edward Plunkett b Dec 1872 Kettering, died 29 Jan 1915 France. He was married in 1893 in Northampton to Annie Fisher b 1874 Northampton.
Edward had 3 sisters - Jane b 1877 Leics, Elizabeth b 1879, and Emily b 1882 Leics. - I have NO further information on these three sisters - can anyone help please?
Their parents were Robert Plunkett b 1848 London WC, and Charlotte Ward b 1851.
I wasn't sure if this should have been on the Northamptonshire board rather than Leicestershire.
Thak you in great anticipation!

Technical Help / family tree maker 2012
« on: Monday 08 October 12 16:05 BST (UK)  »
Hi
I had a previous version of Family Tree Maker and it worked great on 4 different trees that I had.
Then last year I decided to go with the offer to upgrade (at some cost) to 2012.
Wish I hadn't bothered. Discovered if I move a tree to it, it will no longer open on the old version.
now 2012 has insisted on updates and it's lost all my names off one tree except for about 6.
It's rubbish and I'm totally fed up with it.
Anyone else feel the same, and what can i do to find my tree again?

Dumfriesshire / Ruthwell Church stained glass windows COMPLETED
« on: Monday 01 October 12 16:07 BST (UK)  »
Hi
We have recently visited Ruthwell Church to see the stone cross.
we also saw the stained glass windows and coat of arms plaque beneath the windows.
They refer to the Viscounts of Sormont and the Earls of Mansfield. I know the family was based in Scone.
Can anyone tell me why/how this family has connections with Ruthwell, and therefore why their memorials are in Ruthwell?
Thank you
