London & Middlesex Completed Lookup Requests / Gunmaker __ John Robins-- HELP
« on: Wednesday 18 October 06 17:25 BST (UK)  »
I am looking for a Gun maker/ Gunsmith by the name of John Robins.

His son was my great great grandfather and I have got Johns details from james wedding certificate. James was living in Poplar at the time of his marriage in 1891, and was born in either Whitechapel/ Spitalfields or Bethnal Green in 1862 (circa).

John was not detailed as deceased on the wedding certificate.

I am trawling Ancestry as we speak, but could do with some help!

I have found a marriage on FreeBMD for Priscilla Jermyn at Stepney 1c 673 in March qtr of 1882.

On this page there are 3 females but only two males.

Is there anyway without applying for her crtificate that I can make sure this is the correct marriage...if it is her husband would have been James Robbins

Lincolnshire / Baptism of William BLISSETT 13/3/1853 at Canwick
« on: Saturday 09 September 06 11:20 BST (UK)  »
If anybody is visiting the relevant records office for Canwick, could I request a look up.

I cannot ascertain who the mother of William Blissett was. She does not appear on any census records with her son and husband (who is still listed as married, rather than widowed.)

I have found Williams baptism on familysearch as 13/3/1853 at Canwick and mother is Mary, father also William Blissett. I cannot find the marriage.

Hoping baptism may shed some light.

Many thanks in anticipation.

Norfolk / Purdy Of St Faiths Norwich
« on: Thursday 08 June 06 21:25 BST (UK)  »
Does anybody have any knowledge of the Purdy family of St Faiths in Norwich.

My Harriet Purdy was daughter to Sarah Purdy, and we cannot establish if her father was william Purdy or James Purdy as his name seems to change to William in the 1871 Census at Deptford where he was a fishmonger.

Both William/James and Sarah were born in St Faiths in this and other census returns, but he does give Ely as place of birth in 1861!!

Gloucestershire / Hutchesons of Bristol
« on: Friday 19 May 06 21:38 BST (UK)  »
Looking for this family on the 1861 Census, but no joy on Ancestry.

Robert Hutcheson Head (if still alive)
Margaret Hutcheson Wife Born Circ 1820 Bristol

Possible Children living with them would be

Albert
Lewis
Harriet
Thomas
Alice
Allen

Located the family in 1851 (as Huthengson!) and in 1871, but tried as many variations as I can think of for 1861 and no joy.

Robert is not at home (Bristol) with the family in 1851 but his wife states she is the wife of an engineer. In 1871 she is listed as a dealer of fancy goods, now living in Greenwich. All of the children are detailed as living in Bristol. Therefore in 1861 they were probably in Bristol but mayhave been in Greenwich.

Lancashire / Marlor of Oldham
« on: Friday 19 May 06 18:17 BST (UK)  »
I have a relatve by the name of Mary Jane Marlor. Mary was born in Bermondsey. Her father was Robert Marlor (date and place of birth unknown) but her mother, Esther, was born in Oldham.

I have noticed that Marlor is a very poplar name in that part of the world and looking for any information on the name and the area.

Obviously Esther was not born a Marlor, but I can only assume that Robert was from that part of the world too.

London & Middlesex Completed Lookup Requests / Barnardos Homes and Packages
« on: Friday 19 May 06 17:43 BST (UK)  »
Hello.

I am stuck, well and truly, in relation to my great grandfather James Robbins. It is known that he was a Barnardos boy for some time, he spoke of it when he was alive, although the reasons we do not know.

I believe I may have found a likely census return for him in 1901 showing as living with his father, also James Robbins, so it looks likely they were reunited at some time.

I was wondering if anybody here had applied for a Barnardos package and was it worth it. They say its a 25 pound search fee and 30 pounds for the package IF they find him, so its quite a bit of cash, but if it gets me anywhere it could be worth it.
