Dorset / Richard Clark and Ann Young - Dorset
« on: Tuesday 04 December 18 07:45 GMT (UK)  »
It seems that I have finally managed to locate the UK connection to our Clarke family.

My grandmother Ann Young Clarke, always told us her grandfather was Jesse Clarke from England, I am  South African, and at this stage we do not connect to the big Clarke family in Durban KZN area, just had a story of two brothers came from England, the one married a white woman, the other a mixed woman (my great great grandmother) and their sister later came to look for them. I have since found descendants of the sister who after married was Mary Ann Bagg.

In our family names there are a couple of second names which are surnames, e.g my grandmother and that gave me the clues on how to find the UK family. As well as the same names our first Jesse named his children. What I have found is this:
1841 Census in Catherston - Lewis

Richard   CLARKE   Male   35   Ag Lab   Yes   HO107-280F2p19
    3   Ann   CLARKE   Female   35       Yes   HO107-280F2p19
    3   Richard   CLARKE   Male   14       Yes   HO107-280F2p19
    3   Ann   CLARKE   Female   12       Yes   HO107-280F2p19
    3   Susanna   CLARKE   Female   11       Yes   HO107-280F2p19
    3   Ruth   CLARKE   Female   9       Yes   HO107-280F2p19
    3   Ellen   CLARKE   Female   7       Yes   HO107-280F2p19
    3   James   CLARKE   Male   5       Yes   HO107-280F2p19
    3   John   CLARKE   Male   2       Yes   HO107-280F2p19
3   Jesse   CLARKE   Male   7 months       Yes

That youngest is Jesse as this age corresponds with his death certificate in South Africa. In our family there is Ellen, Susan, John, Jesse, Ann and Richard repeated and Richard's wife here, Ann, her maiden name was Ann Young.

I dont see many people looking up this same particular family, just one person who it seems found a Painter living with them ten years later.

Please can someone help/find/connect :) Would really be great to see what happened on that end and to share the info I find with Richard and Ann's other children.

Also in other news, another family name repeated is John Goldie Clarke. and I found a John Goulding in the same area as the clark's at some point.
